Give me liberty or give me death

"Any people that would give up liberty for a little temporary safety deserves neither liberty nor safety"  Benjamin Franklin

I read this quote in a magazine the other day and it stopped me cold. I know our country is in trouble. I know the foundation of freedom our forefathers laid is crumbling. For the past 100 years, bit by bit, our freedoms have been stripped from us in the form of high taxes, entitlement programs and government takeovers. I heard yesterday that the FCC has decided to regulate the internet. I know they are already trying to take certain talk radio off the air. Who are we, Nazi Germany?  Before too long people like me who have a strong belief in God and the freedom of the individual will be censored. And even if you have different beliefs than I do, don't think that they won't censor you as well!

Yet, despite all this, all I see around me are apathetic people who are not only ignorant of what's going on, but are too self-involved to even care. More and more I see the young people in this country looking for government handouts, whether it be in the form of unemployment or help with college or buying a home. Guess what, people? When the government controls the purse strings of the things you need in life, you have lost your freedom. And according to Benjamin Franklin, if  you're willing to trade your freedom for money, for aid, for a more comfortable life, you don't deserve to be free in the first place.

Although I pray for this country nearly every day, I don't have much hope for us. We have become complacent, spoiled children, holding out our hands for more toys, more goodies. Before too long, some of these people will wake up to a new America. One where everything you do, everything you eat, everything you watch on TV will be monitored, regulated, controlled. Because after all, you're too stupid to run your own life. You're too stupid to make good decisions. So big Daddy government will step and make them for you. These are the people who will wake up one day and find all their freedoms gone. They'll wonder how it happened, but it will be too late to change it.

Yet, as a believer in Jesus, I can rest in the knowledge that God is on the throne and whatever happens is part of His plan for the end of the age. And that eventually, all man-made governments will fail in this world because without God, man is inherently evil and the power he obtains makes that evil come to life. One day this world will be ruled by the Kingdom of God and all will be in subjection to His Son. I, for one, can't wait!

    Morning, MaryLu.
Well, here we are ... one week into January ... already !!!
After reading what you wrote for today, it caused me to think of the verse that says: "Come quickly Lord Jesus!.
Yes, our world is in a mess ... all mankinds' own doing. I also, am eager to have God rule and reign over us ... totally ! We have 'perfect' freedom in Christ, but not in this world ...
Thanks MaryLu, for sharing another great blog. Our eyes should be, and, need to be -- opened to these truths.
    Take care, and, God Bless,
    In Him, Brenda Hurley

  2. Good post, MaryLu. It reminds me of the lesson we did in my Women's Bible Study yesterday. We are reading I Kings, about how Rehoboam didn't listen to the people, but went along with his 'friends' instead. This eventually destroyed him. Our government is in moral trouble big time, but sometimes all we can do is pray. Because like Rehoboam, the government has turned a deaf ear to the people and is doing only what serves 'their' purpose at the time..........on another note: pray for me today, I have a dentist appointment. Not my favorite place to go, but I have to go because of a huge problem. Thanks and God bless.

  3. Thanks, Ladies. Part of me is so mad about what I see happening to our world, our country. And the other part is at peace that God is in control!
Debbie, I have terrible teeth and gum problems, so I can relate. I will be praying. Let us know how things go...

  4. Well, my dental appointment was quite interesting. First of all, I have to have a lot of work done...not sure I can afford it though...second, they took my blood pressure and it was so high that they sent me straight to the doctor. It was 171/101. I am on BP meds once again and now I have to figure out what to do about the dental situation. Oh well, at least I'm still alive! Thanks for your prayers.

  5. Debbie, perhaps God sent you to the Dentist to save your life! How else would you have known your BP was so high!

  6. I knew it was high, because I was on meds that I had to stop taking because my current doctor moved. So, I was between doctors. This DID get me to the doctor sooner, though. Just keep me in your prayers. My head is killing me right now. Too much stress for one day, I guess. I am going to eat something and relax. Have a good night and thank you for caring. *hugs*

  11. I will try. I have my 2 year old grandson all day and night. My daughter is sick, so I am letting her rest. He is a good kid for the most part. Have a great day.

  12. Absolutely agree!
I can't wait either. Also, I kind of wish I could die before our country completely kills itself. Who would want to be here, then?
Although, persecution isn't something we really receive compared to other countries...
