Now for a bit of news: I received the prelimnary cover of Veil of Pearls and shared it on Facebook. If you haven't seen it yet, I'm posting it here with a blurb from the book and the release date. The cover may change slightly from this, but I think this is pretty much it.

Adalia Winston, a runaway slave, arrives in the bustling port town of 1811 Charleston, South Carolina, having escaped her vicious owner on the island of Barbados. Only one quarter Negro, she is able to hide her heritage and use her herbal medicinal skills to procure a job with a local doctor. When she meets Morgan, the handsome, spoiled son of a rich plantation owner, she finds herself swept up into the extravagant, pampered lifestyle of the Charleston elite, relishing the attention and opulence of a world she never dreamed existed. But in her efforts to be a part of popular society and capture the heart of Morgan, has she pushed the God who has never left her into second place, while being ashamed of the person He created her to be? And when her owner comes to stake his claim, will Morgan and her new friends stand up for her when they discover who she is, or will her world come crashing down around her?

Releases June 2012

Finally, let me leave you with this wonderful soldier's prayer I found. May it encourage you, bless you, and give you a clearer picture of our Awesome God!

A CONFEDERATE SOLDIER'S PRAYER
Author Unknown,
(Attributed to a battle weary C.S.A soldier near the end of the war)

I asked God for strength, that I might achieve;
I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health, that I might do greater things;
I was given infirmity, that I might do better things.
I asked for riches, that I might be happy;
I was given poverty, that I might be wise.
I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life;
I was given life, that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am among all men most richly blessed.

    Your new book "Veil of Pearls" sounds wonderful, MaryLu. And, I very much like the cover !!! I saw that "tiny print" ... "Releases June 2012" ... I'd say we have a bit of a wait. However, that being said ... your books are ALWAYS worth waiting for !!!
    Loved the "Soldier's Prayer" ... how humbling, and, how beautiful ! I especially like the line: "I was given life, that I might enjoy all things".
    God IS good ... ALL the time ... no matter what ! He always knows, what is best for us !
    Thanks again, MaryLu.
    And thank-you so very much Michelle. I can hardly wait ! (Can hardly believe - I won !)

  3. Congrats to Brenda! Enjoy.
    I love the soldier's prayer, MaryLu, it is so uplifting. So many of us pray for one thing and get something else, not realizing at the time that it is what we 'really' needed. God sometimes gives us what we 'want', but He always gives us what we 'need'. Praise God!
    Have a great weekend everyone!
