When Life gets Blurry!

For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection of reality as in a riddle or enigma, but then we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part, imperfectly, but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood by God. 1 Corinthians 13:12

Back when tall ships were at sea, the vision the captain saw through his telescope was upside down! In fact, many telescopes are still that way, particularly if they are used for astronomy.  But can you imagine being on one of those ships plunging up and down through waves and you're trying to see the location of an oncoming enemy and the scene is inverted? Not to mention the sea spray and salty film  that showered the glass  No wonder they relied more on the sailor's eyes in the crow's nest!

Yet the Bible says that is how we see things in this world. Blurry and upside down and dim.  Until recently, I've been blessed with great eyesight but as I've gotten older, things have become blurry. Especially when I read or work on the computer!  If I don't have my glasses on, I miss letters, sometimes words.. and details that I need to know. It's frustrating! God says we see life that way. I don't think He means the physical world.. houses, trees, people. I believe He means things beyond our limited senses.

For instance, can you see faith, hope, love? You can see the consequences of them but you can't actually see them. You can't look into a person's heart and see his or her character.  You can't see angels or demons or God Himself or Heaven or Hell. Why? Because they exist in another dimension outside our physical world.

Since we consider and look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen; for the things that are visible are temporal (brief and fleeting), but the things that are invisible are deathless and everlasting  2 Corinthians 4:18

Wherever that other dimension is, God is trying to tell us that it is reality and it will last forever, while where we are now is not reality but a mere reflection and it will not last forever. Why do I tell you this? To give you Hope. Let's face it, life here is a bit blurry. It is a riddle or an enigma like the Scripture above says. It isn't pretty. It isn't clean. It isn't always happy and good and fun. Sometimes it's downright messy and painful. Most of the time it hurts. And you may be wondering what God is thinking? Does He care? Where is He?

He is right beside you, holding your hand. He has a plan. He's plotting a course to get you through this temporary world into the eternal one. Just hold on and trust Him.

God is our captain. He has a special telescope through which He sees everything. He sees the Big picture of everyone's life and all of eternity. He sees your life from beginning to end. He sees all the enemies on the horizon. He knows every storm, every attack, every shortage that will ever happen. And He has it all worked out for your good, along with the good of everyone else on board...all their lives intertwined and criss-crossing and affecting each other to one glorious conclusion! It may not seem that way to you now, but you'll see clearly one day!

  1. Great post, MaryLu! You know, I have the opposite problem with my eyes. I have to take my glasses off whenever I read or go on the computer. Good thing God sees clearly!

  2. Mon Apr 2nd,
    "Morning, MaryLu."
Thank Heaven, that God is our Captain ... and that He sees everything clearly ... from beginning to end. 'Knowing' that He holds our hand and walks us through this life, means SO very much !!! And how true, we may not understand clearly now ... but one day, we will !
I am reminded of the song that says: "I don't know 'what' my future holds, but, I do KNOW "WHO" holds my future" !!! And, that, means the World to me !!!
Thanks again, for sharing this great truth !!!
    Take care, and, God Bless,
    In Him, Brenda Hurley

  6. No, I am near sighted, because I can see close up without glasses. Although, not as well as I used to. LOL Isn't aging a wonderful experience? Keeps us guessing. :)
