Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth!

The more I study the Bible, the more I realize how RICH and DEEP it is. It contains layer upon layer of truth and revelation and light. The references to labor pains have been one of those things that has caught my attention recently. So, I did a search throughout the entire Bible on any phrase having to do with a woman's labor pains. I think you'll be as amazed as I was at what I found.

ANYTIME Labor pains are mentioned in the Bible they are either mentioned in the context of One of Two things

1. Fear and trembling due to some impending judgement or war OR
2. The final tribulation period that will come upon the earth at the end of the age

Below, I list Scriptures that have to do with the final Tribulation period. Browse through them and then at the bottom I have a couple of exciting revelations to share!  (I encourage you to read these Scriptures in context as well)

Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand!
It will come as destruction from the Almighty.
Therefore all hands will be limp,
Every man’s heart will melt,
And they will be afraid.
Pangs and sorrows will take hold of them;
They will be in pain as a woman in childbirth;
They will be amazed at one another;
Their faces will be like flames.  Isaiah 13

God is speaking here of the coming tribulation
“I have held My peace a long time,
I have been still and restrained Myself.
Now I will cry like a woman in labor,
I will pant and gasp at once.
I will lay waste the mountains and hills,
And dry up all their vegetation;
I will make the rivers coastlands,
And I will dry up the pools. Isaiah 42:14-15

“The whole land shall be desolate;
Yet I will not make a full end.
For this shall the earth mourn,
And the heavens above be black,
Because I have spoken.
I have purposed and will not relent,
Nor will I turn back from it.......For I have heard a voice as of a woman in labor,
The anguish as of her who brings forth her first child,
The voice of the daughter of Zion bewailing herself  Jeremiah 4

The sound of noise from the city!
A voice from the temple!
The voice of the Lord,
Who fully repays His enemies!
Before she was in labor, she gave birth;
Before her pain came,
She delivered a male child.
Who has heard such a thing?
Who has seen such things? Isaiah 66:6-8

We have heard the report of it;
Our hands grow feeble.
Anguish has taken hold of us,
Pain as of a woman in labor.
Jeremiah 6:24

Also  in Jeremiah 6, there's a verse that says
Saying, ‘Peace, peace!’
When there is no peace.

which reminded me of this verse in 1 Thessalonians 5:3
For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

‘We have heard a voice of trembling,
Of fear, and not of peace.
 Ask now, and see,
Whether a man is ever in labor with child?
So why do I see every man with his hands on his loins
Like a woman in labor,
And all faces turned pale?
 Alas! For that day is great,
So that none is like it;
And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble,
But he shall be saved out of it. Jeremiah 30:5-7

The entire chapter of Micah 4 is about the Lord's reign in Jerusalem

Now why do you cry aloud?
Is there no king in your midst?
Has your counselor perished?
For pangs have seized you like a woman in labor.
 Be in pain, and labor to bring forth,
O daughter of Zion,
Like a woman in birth pangs.
For now you shall go forth from the city,
You shall dwell in the field,
And to Babylon you shall go.
There you shall be delivered;
There the Lord will redeem you
From the hand of your enemies.
Micah 4:9-10

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”
 Therefore He shall give them up,
Until the time that she who is in labor has given birth;
Then the remnant of His brethren
Shall return to the children of Israel. Micah 5:2-3

For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.  Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body.  Romans 8:22-23

For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.  For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape  1 Thess 5:2-3

Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. Matthew 24:7-8 Jesus when discussing the last days.

Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth. Revelation 12: 1-2

This is not an exhaustive list by any means and there are many other "labor" Scriptures that reference war and judgement, but I'd like to point out a couple of really cool things.

1.  I've just listed ELEVEN Scriptures from the entire Bible that connect "labors pains" with the "Day of the Lord", "Jacob's trouble" or what the Bible calls the final tribulation on earth...the final 7 year Tribulation spoken of in Revelation and elsewhere.

Based on that, surely we can conclude that the Revelation 12 Sign (Of which I've written an entire lengthy blog post on)  is, indeed, a sign that SIGNALS the Tribulation either starting or happening.  Remember, the Bible interprets the Bible. Many people, including many well-meaning pastors, tell me this sign has nothing to do with either the rapture or the tribulation, but honestly, the evidence in SCRIPTURE is overwhelming.

BUT WAIT! There's more!

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
Though you are little among the thousands of Judah,
Yet out of you shall come forth to Me
The One to be Ruler in Israel,
Whose goings forth are from of old,
From everlasting.”
 Therefore He shall give them up,
Until the time that she who is in labor has given birth;
Then the remnant of His brethren
Shall return to the children of Israel. Micah 5:2-3

It's obvious from the context that it is speaking about Jesus, His birth in Bethlehem and how He will rule in Israel... right? Then you'll notice it says "He shall give them up until the time that she who is in labor has given birth"

Who does Jesus give up? In the prior sentence, He was talking about Israel, right? So, He gives up Israel until a woman who is in labor gives birth.  Where in the Bible does it talk about a SPECIFIC woman having labor pains and giving birth?  REVELATION 12!  (Which I've proven in my Revelation 12 Post is a Rapture verse and I've just proven here in this post is a Tribulation verse)

Now, let us put this together. Wouldn't a good interpretation of this verse in Micah be that Jesus gives up Israel (because they rejected Him as Messiah and He turned to the Gentiles) UNTIL the church is raptured and the final 7-years of Tribulation begins? That actually agrees with what it says in Daniel 9 when Gabriel tells Daniel the future history of the Jewish people and specifies that there will be a final week (7 year) time period (Daniel 9:27) where God will turn back His attention to the Jewish people.

The Bible is SO rich! This is so amazing, and even more proof that the sign in Revelation 12 is the real deal.  I hope you agree.

Be blessed!

  1. Very interesting! Even if I were unsaved, I doubt I could look at the world today, and not think SOMETHING is about to happen. I feel as though the earth is more than ready for its 'labor pains' to begin. As always when I read your posts, I learn something new and am glad you share the 'treasures' you've found. Not only are you a fantastic writer, but you would also make an excellent Bible teacher....just sayin' :-)

    Hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th of July.

  2. Amazing work bringing these verses to us. Praying that all who read the pages you have written from Revelation 12 to every posting will open their mind and hearts and see with their eyes that the things that are happening in our world today points to the groanings of the end of a time that we know. I pray for those who have not been set free and do not know Jesus Christ as their Savior. I pray that all eyes will be open to see the Signs in the Sky. May God continue to use you to help others .

    1. Thanks for your prayers, Elsie! Those are my prayers too! I'm not predicting any rapture date. However, I do think time is short and there are so many lost out there. We must do all we can to get the word out. :-) Thanks, as always, for coming by and brightening my day!
