My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge

I found these Scriptures in Hosea 4 the other day and the similarities to the current state of our great nation sent a chill when down my back.

The more they increased and multiplied in prosperity and power, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame. (Aren't we the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth? Has it caused us to draw close to God or turn away from Him?)

They feed on the sin of My people and set their heart on their iniquity....(Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Gen 6:5.  God destroyed man at that time with a flood. Aren't we just like this now?)

For they shall eat and not have enough; they shall play the harlot and beget no increase, because they have forsaken the Lord for harlotry; (harlotry = serving other gods. Isn't it true that no matter how many things or money some people have, they are never satisfied?)

Harlotry and wine and new wine take away the heart and the mind and the spiritual understanding. (Rejecting God and spending your time partying dull your spiritual understanding. I can attest to this personally in my younger years. In whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 2 Cor 4:4.)

My people habitually ask counsel of their senseless wood idols, and their staff of wood gives them oracles and instructs them. (Idols are anything we put ahead of God, such as money, power, fame, sex, people, jobs, looks. How many people rely on these things to save them and make them happy?)

For the spirit of harlotry has led them astray and they have played the harlot, withdrawing themselves from subjection to their God.... (We've taken God out of the home, our schools, most churches, and our government)

Therefore the people without understanding shall stumble and fall and come to ruin.

Pray for our country!

  1. Monday, Dec 6th,
    Morning, MaryLu.
Thank-you for sharing the verses you did.
Two of the verses especially, jumped out at me:
"The more they increased and multiplied in prosperity and power, the more they sinned against Me; I will change their glory into shame." -- Is this not what is happening "right now" ??? !!! Talk about the Scriptures foretelling 'what is' going to happen on this Earth, and, 'what is already' happening !!! Wow ... this is 'history-in-progress' going on, as we speak !!! (Not good !!!)
And the second verse that really jumped out at me:
"Therefore the people without understanding shall stumble and fall and come to ruin." -- Again, wow !!! Is "this also" not happening right now ???
God is NO fool, He is NOT to be mocked !!! Mankind has brought these messes upon the Earth, themselves !!! No one else is to blame !!!
Yes, MaryLu .... PRAYER is the answer ... oh how desperately we NEED to pray !!!
    Thanks for sharing.
    Take care, and, God Bless,
    In Him, Brenda Hurley

  2. Whoa, this DOES give you the chills when you read it. It's speaking exactly of the times we are living in. No wonder God destroyed the people in a flood. All that evil grosses me out too. But this time, the people won't get destroyed by the flood, they'll get destroyed by the antichrist, and that's creepier than any human could imagine! This post definetely needs to be shared with every Christian on the planet. I will CERTAINLY pray for our people and our country, MaryLu!

  4. Yes, Brenda, that's what hopped out at me too! The more people gather their wealth and comforts, the more they forget the ONE who gave it all to them. It's an inherent flaw in human nature, I suppose. One only God can truly fix.
Eszter, yes the next judgment of God will be far worse than the flood. The Antichrist will kill millions and wreak havoc on this planet. I only hope I'm gone by then, but I'm not sure I will be.
Thanks Debbie. Reading the Bible brings us closer to God and further from the world. It's a good thing, but also difficult to see what's going on.
    God Bless you, ladies!

  5. I have also seen the direction our country has headed. It is okay for little children to have "safe" sex, it is okay for them to kill their babies, and same sex marriages are all good *ick!*. So many people are trying to do evil to us, to do away with the Constitution and laws that define what is right and good and protect our freedoms.

And yet, I am reminded of Moses. Moses was often the only person standing between the children of Israel and God's wrath. God said several times that He was ready to destroy them, but Moses always begged God to give them one more chance. And because of Moses, and probably many other godly men's prayers, Israel always got one more chance. They were punished many times, yes, but God never completely destroyed them, all because men of God were praying for them.

So, I don't know about you, but I'm going to keep on praying for America. Maybe my prayers will make the difference.

  6. Yes, Sassafras, Moses is a good example! His love for his people and his faithfulness to God are things we should strive to copy in ourselves. Also, I hear he was one of the most humble men ever known. Prayer changes things, so let's keep praying!
