For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,
and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. 2 Timothy 4:3-4
Just for clairty, here is a summary of the points making up a Biblical Worldview?
- There is absolute moral truth
- The Bible is the infallible Word of God
- Satan is real
- A person cannot earn their way to heaven by doing good works but by faith in Jesus Christ
- Jesus is God and the son of God and lived a sinless life on earth
- God is an all-knowing, all powerful creator of the world who still rules the universe today.
19% of Evangelicals have a Biblical WorldView
54% of Evangelicals believe there is no absolute moral truth
21% of Evangelicals believe the Bible is not the accurate Word of God
53% of Evangelicals believe it possible to earn your way into Heaven
37% of Evangelicals believe Jesus did not led a sinless life
40% of Christians do not believe in Satan
62% of Christians do not believe the Holy Spirit is a living force
The results of the survey when questioning all Americans (not just Christians)
9% of all American adults have a Biblical Worldview
< .5% of those Americans between the ages of 18-23 have a Biblical Worldview!
I don't know about you, but I find these figures really upsetting. How can anyone call themselves a Christian and not believe in moral truth, that the Bible is true, that you can only get to Heaven by Faith in Jesus? What then do they believe in that qualifies them to be named Christians? Only 19% have a Biblical world view! So who are these other 81%? Where are they? I think we'd be surprised at the answer. For I believe they are in our churches, our Bible Studies, our homes. These are the people I gear my stories to, who I hope to reach. People who would pick up my book because they think they are Christians.
But what scares me the most is the staggering figure of people between 18-23 who have no concept of a Biblical Worldview. What sort of generation are we raising? And what will the world be like when they rise to power?
It's not like God didn't warn us:
But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron. 1 Timothy 4:1-2
MaryLu,
ReplyDeleteThis is tough to swallow. But I know it's true that our world is falling away. Did you see my latest blog post on Shoutlife? It's about the Obama administration burning Bibles of US Military.
This is really hard to accept, even though in my heart I know it. It's even harder when I realize that it could even be my brother who thinks that way.
ReplyDeleteAside to JHT: I heard about that group that had their Bibles destroyed. I was outraged! It's just like Hitler and the burning of the books, only it's selective: they're only destroying Bibles! Those people weren't proselytizing, they were just having their own little Bible study.
This is really scary what we're starting to see. Although, as Christians, we have something to look forward to, but I fear for the lost who will be left behind.
~Sasafras
It is comforting that God knows those who are His and Jesus said that He lost not even one that the Father gave Him--Many will say Lord, Lord,But Jesus said that He would respond with 'Depart from me, I never knew you'
ReplyDeleteWhen my Pastor preached thru Luke a few years ago, he pointed out that when Jesus walked here on earth, the crowds followed Him because they were facinated with Him but they did not want Him to belong to them(they had their Gods--remember the pharisees--they were satisfied with what they believed and 'stood praying with themselves I'm glad I am not like other men--)---our churches today are places where the 'crowds' gather.

We need more followers of Christ addressing this issue. I truly believe the death of a biblical worldview has started in our own homes with parents not training their children according to a biblical worldview. I speak to this issue myself. http://worldviewyouthevangelism.com/
