(I forgot to tell everyone to please put your email address in your comment so I can get ahold of you)
But don't despair! If you didn't win, your name automatically went into a much larger bucket to win the sea-faring gift basket at the end of the month. AND I'm giving away another free copy of The Blue Enchantress this week! Just leave a comment on this post about Nathaniel.
And every time you leave a comment this week, your name will AGAIN be entered into the drawing for the sea-faring basket, even if it's already in there.
And now, Nathaniel Mason.
Brief Description: Nathaniel Mason is a working man—a ship builder by trade and the captain of his own fleet of merchant ships. At age 25, tall and muscular, with dark brown wavy hair, tanned skin, and walnut colored eyes, he often smells of the wood and tar he uses to build ships. He is hard worker who has spent years working and building the two ships he now owns and operates on the
Strengths: Leader, Integrity, Honor, Hard-working, Decisive, Devoted, Moral, Kind
Weaknesses: Judgmental, Unsympathetic, Stubborn
Quirks: You’ll often hear Nathaniel say “Fire and thunder” whenever he is upset or angry. A jagged blue scar mars his left side where he was stabbed as a young boy trying to protect his mother. The wound burns whenever he is threatened or feeling uneasy and he often reaches up to rub it during those times.
Inspiration: Nathaniel Mason is a godly man with exceptional morals and a strong desire to do the will of God, save for one tiny flaw—formed from a difficult past—that causes him to deviate from that perfect path. I love Nathaniel. He is such a good example for everyone around him and so capable and resourceful. As a natural leader, people are drawn to him, rely on him and look up to him. The amazing thing is, he doesn’t even recognize the gifts God has given him. He is the type of man who so much wants to do the right thing, that sometimes he is trying too hard on his own power and needs to let go and let God.
Nathaniel's biggest flaw is that he values the opinions of man over the opinions of God. And because of that, he tries to become successful by the world's standards and not by God's. I think all of us are guilty of this at one time or another in our lives, don't you? Who doesn't want to be successful and be praised by our friends and family and by our society? I don't think that this feeling in and of itself is necessarily wrong. But it becomes wrong when we put this desire above seeking God and His will first.
If you belong to God, He's not going to let you get away with this for very long! He will pursue you and manipulate the circumstances in your life until you follow His will for your life. I often get asked how do you know what God's will is for your life? The answer is so simple. Do you think God doesn't wants you to know His will for your life? Do you think He likes being sneaky and playing tricks or 20 questions with you? NO. He's a loving Father. The key is putting Him first above everything else in your life and then waiting for Him to show you.
Leave a comment about your thoughts on Nathaniel or anything in this post and you'll be entered not only in this week's contest for a free copy of The Blue Enchantress, but also in a drawing for the gift basket below! (Don't forget to include your email address where I can reach you)
I felt so bad for Nathaniel in The Red Siren because Hope snubbed him! I personally liked him right away...and from the description above he's my kinda hero...tall, dark, and handsome...*sigh* Can't wait to read about him!!!

Wow, I don't think I remember him in the Red Siren....I'll have to go back and look for him! But he sounds like a great character, even with his flaws!!!! Can't wait to read about him!!!!

Oh yeah! I loved how he handled Hope and showed her not every man will bow down to her! haha I think he is a wondeful character and can understand his weakness of wanting man's approval over God's.

It's so hard not to be a people-pleaser. We all start young trying to make our parents proud of us, and it just keeps going after that. But God is in charge of our reputation, and He's the one I'll be standing before, all by myself, in heaven. I need to constantly remind myself that. It's much easier to say than do!!

Nathaniel sounds great! Only, I don't know about the whole unsypathetic thing. I'll have to see. Please enter me for the drawing!

I agree with Renee and Kayla! I liked Nathaniel in The Red Siren. He seems like he'll be strong/stubborn enough to handle Hope, but also kind/gentle enough to understand her.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read Hope & Nathaniel's story! Thank you.

I am so glad that the heroes and heroines have flaws and are based off of real life people. So many books these days idealize the main characters of a story and forget that to be truly human, there has to be character flaws. I see many of that with romance novels; they live happily ever after and so on, but in reality they struggle through life and relationships just like normal people do. So I really appreciate how these characters work through their flaws and realize that the only perfect thing is their Lord.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your stories! May God bless your wonderful gift!

I think if I had a boyfriend, I would want to be just like Nathaniel (but maybe trusting God a little more)! ^_^ I have to say that I'm not relying on God with my life as much as I should, but I'm trying to get back into God. I can't wait to read the Blue Enchantress! Thanks!

He sounds like a great character! I can't wait to read his story!
ReplyDeleteI love Nathaniel's sense of loyalty for a less than sterling mother. He sounds like quite a man. I would love a chance to win The Blue Enchantress.
ReplyDeleteThanks, MaryLu!

I can't wait to read about Nathaniel.Loyalty and integrity are A rare quality these days.tracee77@windstream.net
ReplyDeleteWow, he sounds perfect. Like the guy I'd want. But like all of us, I guess he has the fault of thinking about man's opinion rather than God's.

Nathaniel, I can't wait until he gives it all to God! Please enter me in your drawing.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like he's a great character that everyone can relate to. We all struggle with pleasing people rather God. All of us have that internal desire for approval in some way or another. I can't wait to see how things turn out.
ReplyDeleteThank you for always turning things around and showing your personal concern for the spiritual well-being of your readers. It is so refreshing to read your blog!

Nathaniel sounds so cool! I cant wait to read more about him! I have a feeling that I will like him a lot! =)

I think Nathaniel sounds like a great guy for Hope. They'll balance each other out.
ReplyDeleteI think Nathaniel sounds like a wonderful character! I loved in the first book the way he surprised Hope by not reacting the same way to her charms like other men have. Nathaniel is the perfect gentleman to handle Hope.
ReplyDeleteIt's very interesting how every character has their own difficult passed too, it makes it more fun to read about.
I'm very exited to read about Hope's and Nathaniel's story!
Congratulations Tori,
ReplyDeleteI think that Nathaniel is a very strong person. If you can be hard-working, a leader, and devoted that is what i would call strong. At such a young age to stand up for someone and fight for them that takes courage and you would clearly be devoted to that person. Nathaniel is a very gifted man but to not realize that you are gifted or skilled is a real misfortune. I think this character means well but can say it as well as he could show it.
I too often try to please other people before trying to please my Heavenly Father. Often after taking so much time to make myself presentable, I sit back and think who did I do that for? And often if is for the possible narrow chance that a young man might notice. But GOD has control of my life, the same as the rest of His children, and my future is in His hands. I am excited to discover how Nathaniel will grow and change, just like I am trying. Great post!

I sure am looking forward to reading more about this couple. Nathaniel seems very human, I think we'll all be able to relate to him.
ReplyDeleteNathaniel sounds like my type of character. My husband "objects" to these impossibly perfect people, as he calls them, but I would rather read about men (and women too!) whom I can look up to and thoroughly admire. There are too few real heroes in this world. I like to be able to learn from book characters and form good role models. Everyone has a fault of course, but it's good to be able to learn from their failures as well. I'm looking forward to meeting Nathaniel. By the way, I just lent my Pirates series to a friend. I know that she'll enjoy them as much as I did.

I can't wait to read the book. I thpough she would end up with him in the red siren but then she ran off.
