It's a great cover! I just love that font, it's the coolest! I'm surprised how different this cover is compared to your other book covers. But it's great for this book. :) Blessings!!
I like the cover, as long as the inside of the book is good, do what you want with the cover! I like it when you cannot see their whole face. That's good. I like to picture the characters on my own. I almost never picture the characters as they are on the book covers, or how they are described...=D... Either way, it will be just as fabulous as the rest of your book!!!...
MaryLu...I LOVE it! The font they used for the title is GREAT and I'm drawn in by the ship in the background. Love her dress. It's beautiful and screams "Read Me, Read Me"!!!!! Ooohh, I can't wait! Sherry
Thanks everyone! I love it too! It has that mysterious suspenseful feel to it. What you can't see is that she is holding a knife in her left hand. That has something important to do with the plot. Anyway, like I said, My publisher is going to change it. They don't think this will appeal to the majority of readers. Too dark. How many of you pick a book off the shelf because of the cover? I wonder.
I would read it with this cover! I just finished "The Raven Saint" and absolutely loved it! I have all your books except the falcon and the sparrow. Keep up the good work! I think my favorite thing about your books is that the characters don't come to Christ in unbelievable dramatic ways. They believe a lot in the way I found Christ. Agin, I love the cover. I hope they keep it.:D
I read an article that quoted large numbers of people choose books because of the covers. I think it was something like 75 percent. I wouldn't let it be my only factor - but a pretty cover does attract faster than one that isn't. I usually purchase by author and back cover and reviews. If I am trolling for a new author ~ or deciding between books to buy - the cover may sway me.
I love that dress and the model. Too bad they can't just lighten the bottom if it's considered too dark.
I clicked to enlarge the photo and it is beautiful, MaryLu. It doesn't seem too dark to me and whatever they change, I hope they keep her dress the same. The color and details are gorgeous.
Although I mostly pick up a book because I'm drawn to the storyline, I must say that Christian fiction has the best covers I've ever seen. When I'm scrolling through a website, I'll click on a cover that I'm drawn to.
I like the partial face. I, too, like to have an idea but not the face (which I often think of as some young model's from NY City)
I like the colors, design, background. Okay, have to be honest. My least favorite part is the font. Can't put my finger on it and I'm being way to picky. I'm probably 1 out of 100. It's a great style and seems to be a good match to the tone/era.
I don't think it's too dark but maybe it's because knowing what's probably inside makes it hard to be unbiased!
Thanks everyone! I think covers have a great impact on sales. Covers can draw a reader's eye away from other books enough for the person to pick up that book and check it out. My least favorite cover of my books was The Red Siren. It just didn't fit the story. Anyway, I have no idea how much they plan on changing this cover. I hope not much! But I'll post the next one they send so you can see. God bless!
Hey! MarLu, I just finished The Raven Saint! It was great; I loved it! Great plot, characters, and all around a great book! I really like the cover for your new book! It looks very dramatic and suspenceful. I wonder what it's about...LOL! Anyway, when does it come out? I can't wait! God Bless, Amber Minnehan amberminnehan@yahoo.com
Thanks again everyone! I had no idea this picture would garner so many comments! Anyway, Amber, Surrender the Sea releases next August. I'm actually still writing it! It's due January 31st. After that point, I'll put a bit more info about it on my website. God Bless,MaryLu
Hey MaryLu- I LOVE the cover. I hope Barbour doesn't change it too much! I agree with you on the Red Siren cover, although I read all of your books without fail, I didn't think that cover fit the book at all. So here's hoping they don't "soften" this one too much! Thanks for sharing - I LOVE seeing the new covers for upcoming books! And, yes, a cover is a BIG sway for me, particularly if I don't know the author. An example - the book coming out by Karen Witemeyer (A Tailor Made Bride). I have no idea what kind of an author she is but I already have it pre-ordered because I LOVE the cover on it!
I love the cover. The colors are stunning...deep browns and maroons. The lettering is also appealing. I can't wait for this series to be released, and I will always have fond memories of spending the day in Baltimore with you while you did your research at Fort McHenry.
I REALLY like it too! Especially the colors and the dress. The only thing I might change is the font, somehow doesn't seem quite right. Not that that would stop me from reading it, ha! When is it due out?
OH my goodness - this cover is BETTER than the BEST. It is just incredible. And the font is PERFECT. I just love the way your name looks at the bottom too.
Then I enlarged the whole thing and absolutely got chill bumps when I saw the sub-title - Surrender to Destiny. :)
I just absolutely can't wait - August - Lord give me patience!!! I'm just so excited!!
I hope they don't change ANYTHING. It is just wonderful and I KNOW the contents will be too.
This book will be "just right" by the 31st MaryLu - and it will be exactly as the Lord will have it to be! Don't stress too much - we will all love it - GUARANTEED! Hugs. Joi
I love it!!!!
