Wednesday, October 13th, Morning, MaryLu. "The Captain's Cabin" .... wow ! I like the photo ... but I 'feel' a tad disillusioned ... For somewhow, I had the strange belief that the Captain was "entitled to" a "proper and magnificent bed" ... you know the kind .... large wooden frame, fancy carved head-board, thick mattresses, lavish bedspread, and satin pillow- encasements !!! All very -- "royal-like" !!! But a "hammock" .... are you "sure" this is the Captain's quarters ??? I must have watched too many pirate-movies when I was younger ... and "Hollywood's special effects" have left me with an "unrealistic, but dreamy-bedroom", for the Captain himself !!! Not to worry, MaryLu ... I 'could be' just a tad out-of-touch with reality !!! I will "try" to come "back down to Earth to reality" ... to now 'embrace' the fact that: he just may have 'had to' sleep in a hammock !!! Guess it would make some sense though ... especially when travelling through rough seas ... he would gently be swayed back and forth ... to sleep ! Love it - especially the musket on the wall! If only it were a blunderbuss, though... :-) I like the hammock better than a bed - it makes a lot more sense than having to tie yourself to the bed every time the waves got choppy, and plus, no sheets and blankets that you have to get perfectly smooth! Hmmm...with that latter point, maybe I should replace the bed in my room with a hammock! :-D
I see you found some new photos that still pertain to ships. I love this one. You should keep finding different shots of various places on ships to post. Have a great day.
Hi Ladies! Brenda, no worries. You are correct in that most captain's cabins have wooden beds built into the hull. In fact, in all my stories, I have it this way. I'm sure, however, that some, like this preferred hammocks for rougher seas. LOL. Yes, Tori, this is how I imagine the captain's cabins in my stories.. just not quite as neat. My captains tend to be a bit messy. :-) Sapphire... you got me laughing about the hammock. Yes, no sheets to wash and beds to make. Great idea... Wonder if my husband would mind if I replaced our bed with two hammocks? I'm working on some other pictures of the inside of ships, Debbie. I have found some good sources on line. Even though my publisher doesn't want me to write about ships anymore.. I can't help myself. Blessings, Ladies!
Your publisher doesn't want you to write about ships anymore? Doesn't she know that your pirate novels are what draws most of your fans to read your stories? Prayerfully, in the future, she will see that you will need to continue your writings that include ships and the sea. I really hate that you can't write what YOU want to write. Oh well. Take care.
Add a few feminine touches here and there and I actually might move in! :) Really, I love it! Why is it that when God gives us a story to tell and a certain way to write it, most people don't appreciate or ignore it? God gave you an awesome and wonderful gift of introducing the gospel through your stories that take place on the sea. Don't let anybody take that away from you! God Bless!
Yes, Debbie, my publisher feels that my sales would be higher if I wrote stories on land. I guess the sea-faring readers aren't that many. I really have no idea. We are compromising. I'm writing stories on land at port towns so there are some ships involved, but no more pirates for awhile. This is just the way the business works. The publisher pulls all the strings. Eszter, move in? Yes, you and me both.. it's mind kind of room. Thanks for your kind words. When I get really famous, I can write whatever I want. LOL. Have a great evening, ladies!
Thurs Oct 14th, Heh again MaryLu. Just a quick comment to add to your comments (above) .... about "your publisher feeling your sales would be higher 'if' you wrote more about stories on land". I agree more with what a few of your other faithful-readers have already shared, (re - that statement). MaryLu ... it's the "swash-buckling, exciting, romantic, sea-fearing, gutsy-pirate stories" ... that "we" your readers, love !!! That is the very thing that drew me into purchasing one of your books, for the very first time !!! (I remember thinking: "Ahh, finally .... something with excitement and adventure to read".) I don't know of anyone else out there, writing about 'pirates' (with Christian doctrine throughout). For myself anyway ... I 'want' to be swept away to a time and place I have never been ... full of its tales, and dangers, and victories. That "is" the attraction to "your books" !!! Pirates: an adventure story that none of us have ever experienced. Well then ... we're just going to have to all pray (more fervently) ... that you are "allowed" to (1) become more famous; and (2) that you can write about what your heart tells you to. It just seems a shame, to be 'stifled' in your gifted speciality ! (So, to your already accumulated list, add: "Brenda (Canadian), prefers pirates and the open seas" ! (Just a plug for you ...)
