Courageous - my review!

Courageous - the Movie! My thoughts.

First of all, it's GREAT to see a movie that has no sex or violence or foul words, but even more than that, a movie that has a great theme, a moral, and talks freely about God and the Bible. All in all, I thought the movie was pretty good. It kept my attention, had great drama and action. Hey, I even cried!! On the down side, the acting wasn't superb and the plot seemed to wane in the beginning. But I could set that all aside due to the fabulous theme of Fathers stepping up to be Leaders, the Protectors, the Instructors, the Providers, and the Spiritual Guides of their wives and children!! We see so little of that in this culture. I, for, one grew up without a Dad so I understand first hand the horrible effect that can have on a child's sense of belonging and value.

The Movie is an appeal to Fathers to step Up! To not be ashamed to be Men of God. To be courageous enough to take a stand against this culture and say I am a man of God. I will be faithful to my wife and cherish her! I will spend time with my kids and instruct them with Biblical principles! If even half the Christian men in this country would do this, we could change the next generation and quite possibly save our country from its present course!

So, I highly recommend you grab your neighbors and friends and go see this movie. I truly believe that those men who open their hearts to its message will be forever changed and will leave a legacy of honor and integrity after they die.

Thank-you for the review of this movie, MaryLu. Actually, I hadn't even heard of "Courageous" yet. Not here, anyway. Has it 'just come out' recently ? Sounds good. I'll keep my eyes open for it. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Brenda, so nice to have you back!! Yes, this is a new Christian film put out by the same production company who did Fireproof. Not sure if you're familiar with that movie or not. Last night was opening night here in the US. Hopefully, it will make its way up to you soon!

  3. Hey Brenda, welcome back!
I love the movie 'Fireproof' and I have heard about this movie. I'm not really big on going to see films at the theater, so I don't know if I will see this one before it comes out on dvd. It does sound very good. Thanks for the review, MaryLu, it's greatly appreciated.

  5. Looking forward to it. What I REALLY want to see is your Legacy of the King's Pirates series in film! With good acting & a moving soundtrack (two things usually lacking in "Christian films") I know it would be a hit! Who knows, maybe I'll produce it in 10-15 years. :)

It's been a while since I've been here so I just want to thank you, MaryLu, for the copy of Surrender the Dawn that I had the opportunity to win this summer. It made the road trip down to CA fly by. What I love is how your characters are connected from book to book! Do you plan it from the start or does it just unfold before you as you write? You have such a gift & I appreciate it so much!

  6. By the way...I saw that the Lady Washington is in San Francisco and cruising through CA. She's a beautiful ship! Have you ever seen her or been on one of her cruises?

You'll never guess what ??? Last night, I watched "Fireproof", on a Christian television station (even though had already seen it before). But, I watched it again, and thoroughly enjoyed it, and, it brought tears too. Throughout the movie, when the commercials came on ... what do you think they were advertising ??? "Courageous" !!! Well, it was just all the more interesting, because you had shared your thoughts/comments on the movie, just yesterday ! I don't believe it's actually 'here' yet (in Ontario, Canada) ... but I will definitely watch for it, and, plan to go and see it !
The movie will be 'quality', relevant, meaningful, and, inspiring ... I am sure !
    Hope all is well.

  8. LifeDance, you're very sweet.. I, too, would love to see my pirate series in film! That's in God's hands. I'm so glad you enjoyed Surrender the Dawn!! To answer your question, I do some initial planning before I start a series as to how the characters are connected, but you'd be surprised how much of it just comes to me while I'm writing.
No, I have not been on the Lady Washington. She sounds lovely. I rarely get up to San Fran. It's a scary city. LOL. But I do fly down to San Diego for their yearly Tall Ship Festival. I didn't make it this year but I've been on several ships there.. including the HMS Rose, the ship used in Master and Commander.

Brenda, oh.. yes.. Fireproof has such a good message, doesn't it? So does Courageous. Courageous is probably the better film, in my opinion.

  9. San Francisco IS scary! lol

Thank you MaryLu! God is just beginning my adventure in writing & your writing is quite inspirational. Thanks for sharing that little tip on how you write link your characters.

The Lady Washington was much smaller on board than I thought she would be when I toured her here in port in WA. I couldn't believe it was used in Pirates of the Caribbean. Maybe you can bring your family up North to WA this next summer & go on one of their 5 day expedition voyages through the San Juans! You get to live on board the ship & explore the islands like the explorers did. It sounds like so much fun!

    Have a great week!

  10. LifeDance, most of the ships I've been on are much smaller than they look in the movies! In reality they were tiny ships. I checked out the Lady Washington Tour website. Oh my, would that be fun or what??? I'd be in heaven. That's something I need to save my pennies for.
Have a great week yourself! And may God bless your writing!
