Every writer has a reason they write. There's a reason we spend countless hours all alone, head in hands, staring at our computer screens, countless days combing through ancient documents looking for what type of lace women adored their gloves with in the 18th century, a reason why we endure the scorn of bad reviews, sleepless nights when the characters in our heads refuse to shut up!, why we blog and facebook and tweet meaningless drivel in order to find new readers....
Is it for the fame, the glory, the money? (don't make me laugh!) Let's face it, most of us aren't Steven King or John Grisham, nor will we ever achieve their status. We write because there is something burning within us that must be set free, something we want to tell the world, something the world must know or it will be worse for its ignorance.
It doesn't have to necessarily spring from faith or religion. It could be a cause, a belief, a value that is so dear to you, it becomes your life's work to share it with others. Things such as the environment, the waste of war, the greed for power in government, the importance of family, loyalty, honor, love. It could be just the desire to provide an escape for your readers, give them hours of entertainment and put a smile on their face. It could be a need to provide hope in a hopeless world.
Whatever your reason for writing, it has been planted within you by God, and the world awaits your message! For me, I write to tell the world that there is hope because over 2000 years ago God became a man, suffered and died, so that we might live forever with Him in paradise! At Christmas, that message becomes all the more real to me as we celebrate the birth of Jesus.
The Reason we have Hope! (Enjoy!)

For the reason 'you' write ... to tell the World there is "hope" because God gave us His only Son, to live among us, die, and rise again ... so that we can be cleansed from our sin, and be in Paradise with Him one day, forever and ever .... Praise the Lord !
I enjoy and appreciate your writing so very much MaryLu ... because it does share 'hope', it is real, and we can all identify with the characters in your stories. So thankful that the Lord has blessed you with this talent, and, that you are using it for 'His' honour and glory.
Enjoyed the video ... so touching and meaningful ... especially at this time of year.
Wishing 'everyone' ... a most Happy and Blessed Christmas ... knowing "His" peace, presence, joy and love. And, a happy and healthy 2012.
Take care, and, God Bless,
In Him, Brenda Hurley
Great post, MaryLu, and I thank you for listening to your 'calling' to write. You have touched the hearts of so many people, some you will hear about, others you may never hear about. I, personally, have learned so much from your writing and posts, and friendship. You are a blessing and are blessed, as are all who listen when they are called. Thanks again and I pray you have a Merry Christmas and an Amazing New Year! *hugs*
ReplyDeleteEach of us has been given a gift, and writing it definetely yours. That you use it to bring glory to God is wonderful! I must say that I was trying very hard to find awesome Christian fiction that spoke to me and that was very well written, and well, just a great read! I'm so glad that your books are all of these. I'm so thankful that you continue to write-and blog! You've touched and blessed so many people. Forget the money, the fame, the glory...none of it goes with us when we die (isn't it obvious when they excavated the egyptian pharoah's tombs???), so it really isn't worth striving for. I love your books and blogs, and pray for you all the time! Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Brenda!! Glad you enjoyed the video. It's pretty powerful!
ReplyDeleteDebbie, you make me blush.. But this isn't about me.. it's about Jesus...and Him working through me and through all of us to touch the world.
Eszter, Thank you. And you're absolutely right.. nothing but our obedience to God will shine into eternity.. Thanks for always dropping by and blessing me with your comments!
Wonderful post, MaryLu!
