Four Spring Jewish Feasts
Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread are celebrated together.
Passover - This is the yearly celebration of God's deliverance of the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt. Most of you have heard the story found in the book of Exodus in the Bible where God sent plagues on the Egyptians. The last one He sent was that all their first born would die. In order to be saved from the angel of death, the Jews killed a lamb, spread the blood on the posts and lentil of their doors and remained inside. This feast occurs on the 14th in the Jewish month of Nisan. (Leviticus 23:10-11)
Fulfillment: When in 33AD Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, his shed blood saves all those who believe in and follow Him. We know from Scripture that Jesus was crucified on Passover. He ate the Passover meal (the last supper) with His disciples, went to the Garden of Gethsemane where he was arrested, tried, and executed the next day. Passover for the Jews (as with any of their days) starts at night and goes to the following night.
Feast of unleavened Bread. The
feast of Unleavened bread began on the 15th of Nisan, the day
following Passover, and it continued for seven days until the 21st of
Nisan. . God
commanded the Israelites to avoid eating any leavened foods (food that
contained any fermenting product such as yeast or baking powder) during
this festival, reflecting the fact that the Israelites had no time to wait for their bread to rise before their hasty departure from Egypt. Leaven in the Bible is a symbol for sin as seen in (Luke 12, Matthew 16, Mark 8..) Therefore the feast symbolized removing evil and sin from your life
Fulfillment: Only possible in the true spiritual sense after Jesus paid our price on the cross
Feast of First Fruits - Celebrated the day following the Sabbath that occurs during Passover (the 17th of Nisan) this feast celebrates the first crops of Spring, the new life resurrecting after winter, which was normally the first sheaves of Barley. These sheaves were waved before the Lord as an offering of thanks. (Lev 23:10-14)
Fulfillment: We know Jesus died on Passover day and we also know from Scripture that the next day was a Sabbath (Saturday), which means that the day after that was a Sunday. Remember Jews count their days from evening to evening, thus making it 3 days since they put Jesus in the tomb, thus placing his resurrection exactly on the Feast of First Fruits
"But now is Christ risen from the dead and become the first fruits of them that slept."..."For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order, Christ the first fruits, afterward they that are Christ's at his coming." [1 Corinthians 15:20,23].
Shavuot the Festival of Weeks or Pentecost -was a celebration of the wheat harvest which came 50 days after the first fruits in which the Jews were supposed to bring 2 loaves of bread to the temple as a wave offering. Some scholars believe this is the day when Moses received the Ten Commandments from God on Mount Sinai. God Himself came down upon the mountain in fire and smoke to establish a covenant with His people.
Fulfillment: 50 days after Jesus's resurrection, the Holy Spirit fell on the disciples waiting in the upper room in a mighty rushing wind and tongues of fire to make another covenant with God's people. Notice the correlation with God's Word on Mt. Sinai and the Word of God coming once again to earth through tongues uttered by the Holy Spirit.
As you can see the first four feasts have been fulfilled by Jesus both symbolically and literally on their exact date!!. The remaining three feasts have not yet been fulfilled but It would be a good guess that we will see these feasts fulfilled by some major event of spiritual significance on their exact day.
Three Fall Jewish Feasts
Rosh HaShanah or Feast of Trumpets - Jewish New Year observed on the first day of Tishri. This holiday is also referred to by the Jews as The Awakening Blast or the blast that Awakens the Righteous dead. This feast kicks off Holy Week for the Jews and is celebrated on the first day of the month as a Holy Sabbath. According to Hebraic Heritage Newsgroup. Rosh HaShanah is referred to in the Torah as YOM TERUAH, the Day of the Sounding of the shofar (or the day of the awakening blast) Teruah means "an awakening blast". A theme associated with Rosh HaShanah is the theme "to awake". Teruah is also translated as "shout". According to Jewish tradition, the trumpet blown on Rosh HaShanah was a special trumpet which traditionally had been the right horn of the ram Abraham used to sacrifice in place of his son Issac. Abraham blew the trumpet in celebration of Issac's virtual resurrection. This trumpet that is blown is called "The Last Trump". Any Jewish scholar would know this term and the time it was blown. I know I'm being brief here, but please get a book on Jewish feasts and their meanings and look this up.
Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—
in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead
will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 1 Corin 15:51-52 NIV
The word for 'the last trumpet' here is The Last Trump.
Paul is giving us a clue as to the timing of the rapture
Yom Kippur - Day of Attonement. It is a Holy Fast. A day set aside for fasting, depriving oneself of pleasures, and repenting from the sins of the previous year
The ten days starting with Rosh Hashanah and ending with Yom Kippur are commonly known as the Days of Awe (Yamim Noraim) or the Days of Repentance. This is a time for serious introspection, a time to consider the sins of the previous year and repent before Yom Kippur. One of the ongoing themes of the Days of Awe is the concept that God has "books" that he writes our names in, writing down who will live and who will die, who will have a good life and who will have a bad life, for the next year. These books are written in on Rosh Hashanah, but our actions during the Days of Awe can alter God's decree. The actions that change the decree are repentance, prayer, good deeds (usually, charity). These "books" are sealed on Yom Kippur. Sure sounds like Yom Kippur is a day of final judgement day to me!.
I don't have time to get into this here, but suffice it to say it would seem to me that the Days of Awe are the Tribulation period that occurs between the rapture and the return of Jesus when He sits in judgement over the earth. The Day of Atonement or Yom Kippur is that solemn day when Jesus returns to judge the world. The ten days of Awe in between Rosh HaShanah and the Day of Attonement actually translate into 7 days if you take into consideration the Jewish method of counting their days from sundown to sundown. 7 days? could that be the 7 years of the Tribulation?
Feast of Tabernacles - A celebration of God living with man. It falls on the 15th day of the month of Tishri and is a time when all of God's people travel to Jerusalem. In Zechariach 14, it is prophesied that during the Millenial Reign of Jesus on Earth, all nations will celebrate this feast by coming to Jerusalem. Therefore, this feast will be celebrated at least 1000 times on it's exact day.
So, here's my point, if the first 4 feasts were precisely fufilled on their exact date, and if Rosh HaShanah points to the Rapture of the Church, will the rapture occur on the exact day of Rosh HaShanah? Of course we don't know the year. But I think, based on this evidence, it's highly likely the Rapture will occur on that Jewish holiday. (Which usually occurs sometime in our month of Sept)
But you may say we aren't supposed to know the date! Jesus said he's coming like a thief in the night. But hear Paul's words
Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness 1 Thess 5:1-4
So what do you think? It doesn't really matter when the Rapture occurs. It only matters that you're a part of it! But I still think it's cool how close the Jewish Feasts line up major spiritual events leaving us with the possibility that it will occur on Rosh HaShanah one of these years.
Thoughts?
Tues Oct 2nd,
ReplyDelete"Morning, MaryLu."
At the end of your blog you say: "Thoughts ?" .... Well, my first thought was: yes, you sure did an enormous research ! Wow, and very interesting indeed !!!
Amazing how the various Feasts, line up with the major spiritual events (Fulfillments) occurring.
And, although we don't know the exact date or hour of Christ's return ... God's Word tells us not to be ignorant of what is going on around us. That certain things must come to pass, yet we are to be aware of the signs. And the signs are surely around us, even now !!!
At our Church, we actually have a 'shofar' ... and it is blown ... (once or twice in a year), symbolizing for us to "awaken (from any spiritual sleeping), and shout to the Lord". It's really cool ! And, 'could' the shofar be symbolizing "The Last Trump" ... it could.
Again, MaryLu ... thanks so much for sharing this with us. You obviously poured heart-and-soul into it.
Take care, and, God Bless,
In Him, Brenda Hurely
Thanks for reading through my long article, Brenda!! Yes, I did a lot of research on this and was really surprised at what I found. And I'm not the only one.. there were many Biblical scholars out there saying the same thing! It's all very exciting. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot to think about. I admit I get goosebumps just seeing the Shofar and knowing what it sounds like!
ReplyDeleteThank you for such comprehensive information, MaryLu.
Another "line up" that wows me is the relationship of the Lord Jesus with the Cups used during passover. I need to study up on that one again.
Everything seems to point to one truth, doesn't it? Jesus is Lord
The rapture will be the 1st March 2013.
ReplyDeleteThe DAY and HOUR=An hour of days=60 days=day 60=1st March 2013.
ReplyDeleteTHIS IS THE DATE OF RAPTURE.....
Anonymous, I hope you're right! I'm ready.
ReplyDeleteI guess 3/1/13 didn't pan out, eh?
ReplyDeletei'm very curious to see how 2014-2015 feast season plays out with the tetrads/solar eclipses. if i had to take a wild guess i'd say 9/13/15 but heck, that's just picking the most likely feast day towards the end of that cycle. it also falls on a partial eclipse which could be symbolic of something. i reckon we'll find out one way or another.

Interesting, BG. I've been following the new information coming out about the blood moons as well. Fascinating stuff! And exciting.. Whether the rapture is soon upon us or not, God is up to something in the next few years... and it has to do with Israel. In Jewish tradition the moon represented true believers because they reflect the light of the "sun" . That's why some believe the rapture occurs at the new moon when the moon isn't visible since God takes home all who are his. Anyway, fun stuff. Thanks for your comment.
ReplyDeleteAs I write this, we are less than 4 months from the final of the 4 blood moons, and the end of the shemitah year and possibly the beginning of a Jubilee year. We are approaching 50 and 70 year anniversaries of the rebirth of Israel on May 14, 1948 and the recapturing and taking control of Jerusalem on June 7, 1967. We are looking at 7 weeks of years (7x7x360 days = 17,640 days) divided by our solar year days of 365.25. That comes to 48 years and 108 days from June 7, 1967 = Sept. 24, 2015 and the Day of Atonement, with the Feast of Tabernacles to arrive in just 4 days. I've always hoped that Jesus would return for His Bride, the Church as a birthday present. "And the Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled in greek) among us". I'll return in a few hours and complete my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this.... very informative and exciting... please continue with your thoughts...
DeleteHey MaryLu am really amazed for your research..which to me appears very realistic coz,I have also researched on every single one of these feasts of the LORD and am soooooo VERY excited AND BLESSED at the moment...thank you Marylu...
ReplyDeleteThank you! It's nice to find someone in agreement. :-) God Bless!!
DeleteHi MaryLu, you really have some good research. I wish I would have seen this years ago but nevertheless it has enlightened me even more and its significance goes right in line with all the lunar/solar eclipses in 2014/2015 occurring on jewish feast holidays. Then add that there was a Blue moon last friday which coincided with the 15th of AV and Shabbot Nachamu which are holy observance days in preparation for Rosh Hasanna, I am beginning to believe more and more that the upcoming jewish feasts are more significant that ever. Be blessed and thanks for your insights.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree!! God is not done with Israel. In fact, He was never done. Jesus was Jewish, after all... and we would do well to pay attention to what's happening over there and also all the important feasts and festivals that God set up. They all have great significance. I've only just hit the tip of the ice burg in this post... there's so much more to study. Thanks for coming by!!
DeleteBlessed! Do you have a book? Do you know of one that teaches rapture from Jewish perspective? Or from Torah?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful webpage. Will read later today. Just found. Gotta go. Am meeting with saint who believes what Perry Ennis wrote in "Prepare For Coming Messiah." I don't intend to argue but I know already he may try to disuade me from pre-trib. I am meeting with him because he is aware of the days we are living in and I can't find any believers who care about that. I want to be able to talk about this stuff without being thought of as crazy. Sad--about the church these days. Sad about silent pulpit. Maddening about apostasy too.
Thank you.
Hi Kimberly! No, I don't have a book on this and I don't know of one. I learned it from a pastor I listen to. However I'm sure you can find something online. I just googled "Rosh Hashanah rapture" and found a ton. Rapture is a Christian concept that Jesus taught so I don't think Jews believe in it. They do, however, believe in the resurrection of the righteous dead, which is what Rosh Hashanah is. I used to be post-trip, but these feasts really convinced me. Most Christians will think you are crazy.. as they do me. Most Christians have their head in the sand about end times, even those in my church and Bible Study. It's sad. Here's one site I found http://www.waitingforjesus.com/jewishfeastsprophecy.html God Bless!
Deletewhat is your thought? i have wondered about the 40 days after Jesus was crucified, It was then that he ascended into heaven. So he wandered on earth for 40 days. I always wondered if the 40 days were relevant to the last days.
ReplyDelete40 is a reoccurring number in the Bible. Jesus also went into the wilderness to be tested by Satan for 40 days. And Noah's Ark was on the water 40 days...etc I really don't know the answer to your question, but it's definitely interesting and something to look investigate! Thanks
DeleteI just this very moment found your site while searching for connection of Feast of Trumpets to the Rapture of the Church. Can be sure I will spend some time here. Have not read the posts yet. Was trying to get a handle on some of the comments before diving in. I just wanted to let you know of something I found a couple of months ago. This year for the first time in 2,000 years two witnesses showed up to the Sanhedrin Council and proclaimed when they observed the start of this year in March. Apparently the witnesses were rusty and did not have the "answers to the questions" on their lips as they spoke. Asked if they could resort to their phones in order to answer the questions posed about the position of the moon. They were accurate! I've been looking into it. No one has been able to tell me anything about the incident or the Jewish law associated with it. Just wanted you to know that there IS something about this. Very interesting that this is occurring on the year of Jubilee!!!! I will get back with you later after I have had time to read your info. In His Love Cindy
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, Cindy. That's interesting about two witnesses. I'll have to look that up and see what I can find on it. I did here that the Sanhedrin officially declared 2016 to be a year of Jubilee! Which is exciting because it hasn't been official until now. Blessings!
DeleteHere we are on Sept. 10th 2018. We know how close we are. I hope those who posted here long ago have re-woken just like the story of the 10 virgins.
ReplyDeleteYes me too! Thanks for the comment.
