Help me pick a picture to match my next Heroine!!

I love this part of the writing process! It's so much fun to connect the character I've created in my head with an actual physical representation.  I normally do this before I even write the story, when I'm in the design phase and after I've fleshed out the main characters. I then use this picture whenever I'm writing the story and will refer to it often during the writing process.

Last week I gave my incredibly talented Motley Crew a brief physical description of my heroine in my upcoming book, Herald of Grace. And here are the actresses they came up with. Now it's your turn to read the character description of the heroine and vote for which one you think best fits the description.

No prize involved, just the satisfaction of having your voice heard and helping me a GREAT DEAL by choosing my next heroine.

Okay here we go!
Juliana Dutton is 21 years old, with sea-green eyes, and honey blonde hair. She is tall for her age and has a slightly athletic build.  Juliana is a hard worker, determined, stubborn, and independent. When she puts her mind to something, she never backs down. Due to her father's illness, she has been forced to take over the family merchant business in secret because women were not allowed to run businesses in 1692. Consequently, she bears the burden of her family's support, of getting proper care for her father, and of dealing with a lazy, pleasure-seeking brother.  Regardless of what society says, she believes women are equal to men and her greatest fear is poverty and loss of freedom. Which is why she never wishes to marry and become subserviant to a man.

Now, which of these actresses do you think best fit Juliana??   And thanks!

Amanda Seyfried
Anna Sophia Robb

Blake Lively
Carrie Underwood

Emily De Ravin
Emily Blunt

Hayden Panettiere
Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Morrison
Saoirse Ronan

  2. I think I like Amanda Seyfried best. She just looks more determined than the other women. I can actually see her taking over her father's business and then guarding the secret with her life.

  4. Fri May 24th,
"Morning, MaryLu ... and to all the ladies who have blogged in ahead of me".
I agree -- difficult to choose. But, I think my first choice would be -- Jennifer Lawrence (as I believe she has that "slight athletic build"; and my second choice would be -- Carrie Underwood. But truly, what magnificent choices !
Thanks for having us be a part of this process.
    Have a good weekend everyone.
    Take care, and, God Bless,
    In Him, Brenda

  7. I like the idea of Jennifer Lawrence. She can carry off tough, tender and relies on her smarts despite her beauty.

  8. Hi Cap'n.
Firstly I must say, that I really know little or nothing about any of these ladies.
I think I would choice Jennifer Lawrence as well. She has a no nonsense look about her! As well, she gives the impression of being very capable!

  12. It is a difficult choice but in my opinion, Jennifer Lawrence best fits the tough & determined, not-willing-to-back-down look. ;)

  13. My pick would be between Anna Sophia and Jennifer Lawrence; but I like Anna most because compassion seems to be evident in Anna's visage. =)

  18. I have to agree with all of those who say that Jennifer Lawrence looks very determined and focused on getting things done.

  20. Tough! It's between Amanda and Jennifer, but I think I would have to choose Amanda. Can't wait to see who you choose!

  21. My sister and I voted on Jennifer Lawrence. :) We think she looks perfect for the description.

  22. I'd say Jennifer Lawrence or Jennifer Morrison- they both portray strong tough characters well, who have to hide or repress any sweetness in order to achieve their goals. The other ladies you have as options seem to me to use their charm and sweetness more obviously.

    Hope that helps!

  23. My first choice would be Emily De Ravin, but I also think Carrie Underwood could be Juliana Dutton.

  32. Amanda Seyfried!!She's a beautiful young lady, but she has a look that can be tough.

  33. My first choice is Jennifer Lawrence, she has the look, slightly athletic build, and already played a character that supports her entire family (Hunger Games). My second choice is Emilie de Ravin but only b/c of the posted picture. For some reason, her picture seemed to match your description of Juliana.

  34. I instantly thought of Jennifer Lawrence while reading your description. She completely fits the bill in my opinion. Then I scrolled down and saw her photo. Yes! Pick her :)

    Best wishes!

  40. Definitely not Amanda Seyfried to me.

Jennifer Morrison and Jennifer Lawrence are good at strong, independent heroines, and they look it more so than Amanda, who just seems to look too weak (or something like that). "Never wishes to marry and become subservient to a man"--that sounds (and looks) like them. Of course, we know Juliana will do something like that at the end of the story, won't she? ;)

  41. Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Morrison or Emily De Ravin. The best by far! All the others don't seem strong enough to me. Just their face and body language, even the characters they have played. Besides some of them look too aged to be that age too. I can't wait to read it!

  42. Amanda Seyfried all the way! Even though I don't care for most movies she plays in I have to say that she is one talented person:) I also think she's very pretty without being over the top gorgeous!
