We are destined to be resurrected too!

Happy Resurrection Day!  I hope you all had a lovely Easter Sunday and at least enjoyed some sort of celebration worship, a good meal and the company of people who love you.  If you did, then you are greatly blessed.

If Jesus had not risen from the dead, we all would still be lost in our sins and doomed to hell. If He had not risen from the dead, there would be no Christianity, no point to our faith and as Paul said it, we would be of all people, most pitiable.  Praise God, Jesus did rise from the dead!

For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. 1 Corinthians 15

If you want evidence of the resurrection, click here to read an article I wrote on the subject.

But did you also know that because Jesus was resurrected,  we also will be resurrected? Our dead bodies will be brought back to life supernaturally and will be transformed into super human bodies.  Yes, I know sounds crazy.. but the Bible says Jesus was the firstfruts of a new sort of race. He is our forerunner. And all who die in Him after Him will be resurrected just like Him. He gave us a glimpse of what type of body we will have while He stuck around on earth for 40 days. He could eat and drink, transport himself by just thinking about it from one place to another, walk through walls and even fly (He ascended into heaven).  Yet, he looked human. People could talk to him, touch him, embrace him.

Paul says:
Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—  in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 1 Cor 16

Our bodies will be powerful, strong, and immortal. We aren't going to be like spirits floating around heaven. In fact, we aren't even going to be in heaven very long. Contrary to popular emphasis, heaven is only a stopping place.  Our real destiny is to live and reign here on earth with Jesus. He's going to make all things new here!  Yet I never hear this preached from any modern preachers.  We hear a lot about "being saved" and "going to heaven"  which is very important, but not much about our eternal destination. I think that if we talked more about what God has in store for us (Which He tells us we can't even imagine how wonderful it is)  then more people would be interested in learning more about God. But if we simply talk about some sort of spiritual existence in heaven where we float around on clouds and sing praises to God, well, frankly, to a non-believer, that just doesn't sound very exciting!

Our lives here are so short. We struggle and get sick and lose loved ones and jobs and we work hard and sometimes seem to get no where. But none of it really matters. For those of us who cling to Jesus, we will have superpower bodies and we will have fulfilling jobs and great purposes as we work for Him. We can enjoy food, but we won't need it to live. We will never get hungry or thirsty or tired or worried or fearful or sick. And we will never die.

Sound too good to be true? That's the kind of God we love and serve.
