Friday Frenzy

Happy Friday, everyone!

Writing News

I started editing The Reckoning and it's coming along great!  I expect to have it in my editor's hands in early April. If all goes well, I hope to have it finished and released in June or July! Stay tuned! I will put it up for pre-order soon!

What's happening with the rest of my Charles Towne Belles series??

You may have noticed that I put a new spiffy cover on The Red Siren and re-released it a couple of months ago. I've had several people ask about the other two books in the series.  I'm currently having new covers made for  The Blue Enchantress and The Raven Saint!  I'll post them here when I get the first comps.  Also, I'm editing both books to spruce them up a bit.  My plan is to re-release The Blue Enchantress in May and The Raven Saint this summer. I will probably put them up at a very discounted price and let you all know.

The Ransom in Audio!  Some of you may not know that I hired a professional actress to narrate my book, The Ransom.   I was trying to figure out how to get a sample to you here, but I seem to have lost my technical abilities. Anyway, if you click the link below it will take you to Amazon where you can listen to a sample. I have 5 codes to give away to the first 5 people who contact me. These codes will give you a free copy of the audio version of The Ransom. All you need to do is sign up for Audible and follow a few simple instructions. So contact me if you're interested.

Personal News

Just have to share a few pictures of my new grandson Jack. Yup...  Jack the pirate!  Now, I have a little mermaid, Andrea, and a pirate Jack. I'm so excited and happy to report that my son and daughter-in-law are doing well and handling things as best as they can with little sleep!

Friday Writing Tip!

Theme. Every good book should have a meaningful theme. Theme is the moral or lesson or idea that is burning on your heart that you want to get across to your reader. It could be something as simple as motherhood is a divine occupation to something political or moral like abortion is murder, or it could be something epic and universal like life without God is vanity!
Theme is the message you want your reader to retain and think about long after they turn the final page.
But books are just for entertainment, you might say. I just read them to escape. I totally agree. I love to escape in a good book and be entertained by the characters and story and clever dialogue. However, if you want your book to be remembered, to impact people for years to come, you must have a theme.
For me, theme is essential. It is why I write. I believe God puts messages on my heart that He wants to get out there. Could be for just one person. Or could be more. It doesn't matter. My job is to obey. You could say I'm a theme-driven writer. Some writers are more character driven or plot driven or suspense driven, but for me I start with a theme and build my story world around that theme.

So, what message is burning on your heart? What do you have to tell the world that you want them to understand?  Try starting your story with that singular idea and see what happens!

Have a GREAT weekend!!

  6. Wow! The audio version is pretty cool. I wasn't expecting a British accent. And her pirate voices are great! :D
I totally agree about having a theme. I'm disappointed when I read a book that has no real lesson or point to the story.
