One Day At A Time

Last night, I found myself tossing and turning in bed, hardly sleeping at all. For those of you who know me, I have bouts of insomnia, but this was worse than usual. My mind races with a million things, leaping from one to the other like a Frog on crack. Part of the problem is that as a watchman, I know too much about the evil going on in the world. The other part is that my personality tends to want to control things in my environment and life and plan things out for the future. This is due to my chaotic past where my mother had 8 husbands and we moved 25 times before I turned 18. Yes, she was a gypsy!  Anyway, last night as I lay there, thinking of everything that could be coming and trying to plan for it, I distinctly heard the Lord say. "One day at a time".

When I hear from the Lord, I can normally tell right away because it's short, to the point, and brings immediate peace. One day at a time. In other words, stop worrying about the future or even planning every detail of "what if" and just take it one day at a time.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Matthew 6:34

How easy it is for those of us who have a proclivity toward worry to forget! So, I said, "Yes, Lord. You're right."  and as I pondered those words and tried to clear my mind, I also sensed rather then heard the following:

If you could see into the future, you would never worry again.

Wow. That really struck me. If I could transport myself to the moment I meet Jesus in Heaven and then look back at all the days between now and then, I would see that everything I ever worried about turned out perfect and that even through the struggles, the Lord was with me and was working everything out for my good and His glory!

I mean, we know that, right? We know the Scriptures that tell us "All things work together for good to those who love God and are called"  and the Scriptures that promise us He will never leave us or forsake us and that if we seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness that ALL things will be given us. We know that He who keeps us neither slumbers or sleeps and He will not allow our foot to slip. We know that if we ask anything according to His will, He will do it.

But do we truly believe it? I mean really have faith. Because if we could transport ourselves into the future and could see everything Jesus sees already, He said we would never worry again. In other words, it's already done! It is finished. He knows every place we will set our foot, every trial, every heartache, every disease, every joy, every accomplishment, every need and He's already provided for it.

This is the love of God, which none of us can possibly fathom. But it's real, more real than anything. So when I start to worry about things, I'm going to transport myself in my mind far into the future and see that everything worked out far better than I could ever have dreamed.

I wanted to share that with you today to encourage you to trust the One who died for you and who would have gone through all that suffering and pain JUST for you. Do you think He doesn't have you safely in the palm of His hand?

Your future looks bright!

  3. Greetings Beloved Daughter of our loving Father,
This is such a sweet message. Made me think of the song " His name is like honey on my lips" !
I wonder if you feel like I do; God always seems to bring us to a hard place, a valley, before He raises up atop a mountain ?
8 husbands 25 moves, not an easy climb Sister. And to know that you endured that, and look and see how you now serve the Lord of all creation. Our solid foundation that cannot be moved !

Praise God for one day at a time ! Remember Exodus and the dessert. How God instructed the Israelites to gather only enough food for one day ! And you bring to memory here, that He is still trying to teach us that today !

James 4:13Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business, and make a profit.” 14You do not even know what will happen tomorrow! What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

I think MaryLu that our journey here is all about faith in God. Trust in Jesus. Yeah Jesus knows the begining from the end. He is the author. That is where our anchor is. Our anchor goes deep but our journey is on the surface. 1 Cor 13:12 Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

Almost every character I've read about in scripture had to be tried in the fire of faith.
    1 Peter 1:A Living Hope

3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His great mercy He has given us new birthb into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4and into an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, 5who through faith are shielded by God’s power for the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

6In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in various trials 7so that the proven character of your faith—more precious than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
This passage from Peter is one on my most loved scripts. Gold symbolives value, great value. And Peter is telling us that our faith is even more valuable than any offering we can give to God. It is what opens the door to our salvation !

John 20: …28Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
For we know that without faith it is imposible to please God.

1 Cor 15: 19If our hope in Christ is for this life alone, we are to be pitied more than all men.

Peace to you Sister in Christ Jesus our loving Lord and Master.

    1. I agree, Brother. Our journey here is one of Faith. Do we trust the Lord? Do we believe what He says? The thing I've noticed is that the more I love Him, the more I get to know Him, the more I believe Him! Peace to you and yours!

  4. Thank you for this encouragement! I tend to worry over much about things that I have no control over but I know I can trust God and even though some days seem fairly stagnant and unmovable I know he is working where I cannot see. Thank you for your words, dear sister in Christ.

  5. I’ve heard that worry is not Trusting God through Prayer.
