I WILL KEEP YOU FROM...

By way of encouragement, the Lord led me to expound on this very important verse in Revelation. I know many of us are weary these days as we watch and wait for our Lord. It can be tempting to just give up and slip back into the world and focus on worldly things. But the Lord wants you to know, He always keeps His promises and He is coming very soon!

I'm listing the passage in 3 different versions below. I find it very interesting that each version offers a slightly different interpretation in regard to what exactly this particular church (Church of Philadelphia) has done so well that Jesus says He will take them out before the Tribulation. Personally, I find the King James Version the most accurate, but let's examine the Greek words to be sure.

Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. KJV

Let's first look at the Greek word for "Word" in the phrase "Word of my patience."

Word Logos:  a word, uttered by a living voice, embodies a conception or idea, also the Written word of God. what someone has said;   the sayings of God; decree, mandate or order of the moral precepts given by God;    Old Testament prophecy given by the prophets;    what is declared, a thought, declaration, aphorism, a weighty saying, a dictum, a maxim

Essentially it is the Holy Scriptures and commands of God.

Patience: Greek Word:  hypomonē - a patient, steadfast waiting for; a patient enduring, sustaining, perseverance

So we can then interpret this phrase  "Keep the Word of my patience" as Patiently obeying God's Word

Yet the following 2 versions seem to imply that all you have to do to be rescued from the Tribulation is endure patiently. But endure what patiently? That's a missing key element. That's why it's so important to look at the Greek.

Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth NIV

Because you have kept My word of perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of the testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who live on the earth. NASB

But what about the word FROM. in the phrase "from the hour of testing"  Could this just mean God will protect us during the Tribulation?

From: Greek Word EK  from, out of, from, by, away from

That would seem to indicate God takes us away from and out of this "hour of testing" What about hour? Will He only protect us for a short time?

Hour: Greek Word: coule means day hour season

Testing or temptation Greek Word peirasmos adversity, affliction, trouble: sent by God and serving to test or prove one's character, faith, holiness

So, to put this whole verse together, we might paraphrase it as "Because you have patiently obeyed God's Word, I will take you out from the season on the entire Earth where I will send trouble, affliction and adversity."

Yes, we will be taken out, rescued, snatched away before this season of affliction (Tribulation) starts! But we must meet the conditions. Does that mean we have to be perfect? No. As I've said over and over, it's not about works, it's about your heart. Do you love Jesus, trust Him for your salvation, and do your best to follow His commands?  Do you walk with Him in the cool of the day? That's it!

So we press on. We don't give up. Jesus walks right beside us. He picks us up if we stumble, He takes our hand to give us support. He says. "We're almost home, child. Don't give up now!"

Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

  1. Thank you, MaryLu, going to the original languages is always the best course for clarification. We are so blessed to live in an age in which the abundance of technological tools lets us do so! I recently discovered a study website that lets one display several parallel passages at once, including the Hebrew or Greek: https://thebible.org/gt/index. One can highlight/add notes etc. with a login. I know there are many such sources available now, but this one is quite helpful. Now that biblegateway.com has been banned in the UK, these sources become more precious. I, like so many of us today, have become overly dependent on online resources (especially for reading as my aging eyes need bigger type and backlighting) that we will be lost without them. SO IMPORTANT for us to have hard copies (for our time here and to leave behind), including a good concordance. With the reality and shadow of your SB771, the day is coming when we won't be able to post truth online. Access may be denied completely. For me, that is an important reason to have connected with others in the watching community now--for the memories of likemindedness when we are isolated (if we are here that long). At any rate, for this old English teacher, the word studies are the bottom line. Just yesterday I discovered that "restore" means to return, turn back, retreat. (Psalm 19, 23). My brain always envisioned it meant refresh, renew, never having thought to check. Our preconceived ideas , and for me careless assumptions I already know what something means, so influence how we read and interpret words--often imprecisely. Words matter, definitions matter; not all prepositions are the same: from, through, in, for, are not the same, (thanking God "in" all things and thanking God "for" all things--both of which we are instructed to do--are different theological nuances), and context is king. And since ALL scripture, meaning every word, in the original languages, is profitable for teaching, correcting, training in righteousness (2 Tim. 3:16), we should search out what the words truly say. Thank you😊.

    1. Judi, love that you were an English teacher! And yes. WORDS are so important... Especially in the Bible because Jesus said that every letter, jot and tittle , was about Him and important. I'm going to check out that bible reference. (I heard that they restored Bible Gateway in the UK for now, which is a praise) We all need to dive into the meaning of these Greek and Hebrew words in the Bible and we have no excuse because the technology is at our fingertips. Even 30 years ago. I remember having to buy a huge concordance to even look up words!!
      Blessings!

    2. Yes,! Amazing online study helps, one of the good things about technology. I haven't been able to find my hard copy Strong's since moving (I would never have not kept it, so have no idea where it is), so I just ordered another one for the Left Behind, as I doubt they'll have access to the Internet at all (if they refuse digital IDs) let alone Christian content. Soldier on, sister. Surely it can't be much longer.

  2. Hello Sister in Christ,

Beautiful picture of Jesus presenting the Crown of Life to a true faithful Believer - this is the portrayal of James 1:12 and Revelation 2:10, where Jesus promises the Crown of Life to all those who remain faithful through trials. I love how the subject line reassures Believers of His promise in Revelation 3:10 concerning the Tribulation.
It would be interesting to visualize: would Jesus be presenting the crowns individually to each true Believer or would the Angels also be helping out? Considering the multitude of saints present, it would feel like a giant assembly where countless people are present and certain ones are rewarded with everyone else onlooking the event. It would be glorious beyond measure. Also, would this probably be after the Rapture or later on once all truly faithful Believers have been saved and are present in Heaven?

Regarding SB 771 as Sister Judi noted above, I feel it may be advised that we warn people verbally in person if possible, for serious risk could soon come with calls (think phone tapping) and messaging (think data tracing/mining). I guess the point is that time will come where warning people will be futile or extremely risky, given that it has become obvious that silencing dissenters is quickly becoming a common and normalized practice. I trust that the Lord will save us via the Rapture before that happens.
I also thought, since California proposed this bill, if the Governor were to sign it into law, wouldn’t that be ironic in that it is like exactly what the Beast Empire wants implemented, in accordance with the agenda of the current administration which is very likely, and how there is obvious display of enmity between the Governor and President? Some people may wonder if the public hostility between them was a facade to bring about this prophetic fulfillment of persecuting anyone who opposes the Beast Empire.

Much gratitude as always and Peace and Blessings from a Brother in Christ.

    1. Greeting Brother. My guess is that it would be Jesus Himself presenting us with our crowns and rewards... and I believe it occurs shortly after the rapture because the Bible says Jesus is coming and His rewards with Him.
If you know people in CA, you might bring this bill to their attention, but I'm finding that most here could care less and have zero concept of Freedom of Speech and actually want people whom they consider to be "haters" to be fined. That's how far this nation and my state have fallen into communism. It's hard to watch. I will keep preaching the Gospel as long as I can, but I am going to be cautious about saying certain things on social media.
I believe Newsom and Trump are working for the same side and any enmity between them is most likely an act. The enemy loves to play both sides of the coin to fool everyone.
      Have a blessed week!

  3. Greetings to you Precious Sister in Christ,

    Another astounding picture !
Yes, so weary. Sometime tempted to just quit praying for so many that just wont listen. But for us, there is no turning back. I remember you once said MaryLu; this world has nothing to offer me, I totally agree with that Sister. We have been spoiled by our loving Father. It was said that righteous Lot, was tormented in his sould with the evil around him. And I believe it is the same for us. We have tasted of the Lord, and we are certain nothing in this world can compare to His love for us.
1 Peter 4: 1Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. 2As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God. 3For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. 4They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.

Like you Sister, I love this passage. It is our hope, our promise.

I want to mention a couple things. If we go up to v8 its tells us why Jesus make this promise to keep us from the tribulation; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
we have little strength; now the word means strength in the Greek, but if you put it together with the word *little* it give a better understanding , I think.
Little; of size: hence of stature: they were not bold or arrogant
of rank or influence: they did not have a wide audiance, not a mega church.
of time: short, brief: weary of the constant battle
a little while, how little! being worn down
My sumation of these discriptives (just 3 of 6 displayed) : it's not that they didnt have strength, I think a smaller church, who didnt do Hyper Charismatic side show, but rather preached the unpopular Gospel of Christ, plain and simple, and were probably weary of the persecution they "endured'.
So the three things they are commended for are, little strength left, and in spite of this they kept the Word, and did not deny His Name ! And this really fits Mica 6: 8He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Just one more thing from Rev 3:3 Remember therefore *what* you have received, and heard and obey it... It was brought to my attention in study that the *what* here should be 'how'. Makes a big difference, doesnt it. And I think this applies to v8-10. It's not so much about what the church in Phily did, it's how they did it.

All this Sister is right in line with what I just read in my study of Rev 3 this morning with Joe Focht.

This was a great post Sister, a great hope we should not lose sight of.

    Christs peace

    1. I love that Scripture in 1 Peter 4, Brother. It really says it all.. .IF we have suffered for the Lord's sake, we are done with sin. Then he goes on in verse 3 to describe my lifestyle before I got saved. Makes me cringe.
Good analysis of "little" in the above verses... as in not arrogant, humble. And yes.. so true! Good point. It's not what we do, but how we do it.. in what Spirit we do it. Amen!
      Blessings, Brother!

  4. Good Morning Blessed Sister in the Lord,

Wonderfully beautiful image - I feel the Lord may be putting us through one of the final tests of faith especially with evil everywhere to see who truly endures to the end so that they may receive the Crown of Life. This definitely encouraged me and many other true Believers to keep hanging in there for we are close to the finish line.

I do not know if you heard yet, but the President laid out a 20-point plan in an “effort” to end the Israel-Hamas War, which will mark two years exactly a week from today. Netanyahu reportedly found it agreeable and some other nations too, but I read that Spain’s PM stated that “Israel and Palestine living side by side in Peace and Security is the only solution to resolve everything.” The three underlined words instantly stood out - think 1 Thessalonians 5:3? I feel the Lord made me notice those words right away as a sign of reassurance that He will be saving us soon for the next display of evil may happen in the near future. Could this be a good interpretation?

After looking at the 20-Point Plan briefly, it seems like it is mainly intended between only Israel and Hamas, so it is not the Daniel Covenant, which will involve “many nations.” Therefore, it kind of makes sense why the Rapture should not happen yet, but time will tell in the next three months. September went by as usual so let us see what the next 90+ days will bring. First thing to notice very soon is the government standing, especially with a shutdown seeming to be likely, isn’t it?

I found myself looking at the clouds in the sky a number of times daily for a while and when I see the sun glowing and emitting its rays through the clouds, I tell the Lord that I acknowledge His presence and say Come Quickly Lord Jesus to remind myself that this world is no place to ever call home. Hopefully we will all be going home soon.

Much Peace and Gratitude in Christ and Have a Blessed Day!

    1. Greetings!! Yes, I truly believe this 21 point plan of Trumps is the foundation for the Daniel covenant.. and the one the AC will "confirm" or strengthen when the time comes, but it is not there yet. I believe that covenant must include the building of the third temple. And I believe it happens after the Gog-Magog War. But all of this doesn't mean the rapture is delayed. It can be any day now! We don't really know the sequence and timing of these events.
I love that you look at the clouds and pray to the Lord to come! I find myself doing that often too. He hears the prayers of those who long for His appearing! And they will all be answered one day soon.
Keep your hope and joy alive! Blessings
