Hope in a hopeless world

I think our world could use a little hope these days, don't you? With all the wars going on and threats of wars, the economic woes, the pandemics, and violence, people are looking for answers. We all need someone or something to rely on.
No matter how independent-minded someone is, deep down, they would have to admit that they are depending on something, whether it be their good looks, personality, financial portfolio, education, a special friend, spouse, parent, sibling, or even a government official. Look at all the people who believe Obama will fix all their problems. When that something or someone comes through for them, they feel happy and at peace. When it doesn't, they get depressed and feel anxious.

Hope is such an important thing to have. Have you ever met anyone without any hope? I mean completely without hope? These are the chronically depressed, the suicidal people, who believe they have no reason to live anymore. I've heard hope described as the Oxygen for the soul or the anchor for the soul. In order to function, we humans need to put our hope in something. But ultimately anything and anyone in this world WILL let you down. It is inevitable. When that happens, people either become seriously depressed or they find something or someone else to hope in.

God's word has much to say about hope. But for hope to be true hope and for it to serve it's purpose in our hearts, our hope must be in someone who will never let us down, someone who will come through for us 100% of the time, Forever. That means that this person must be incapable of lying or going back on a promise or forgetting about us. This must be a person who is completely Faithful! Guess what, we are in luck, because such a being exists, and it is God.

He can never tell a lie. (Numbers 23:19)
He cannot go back on a promise. (Isaiah 55:11)
He will never forget you or leave you. (Hebrews 13:5)
He wants only the best for you. (Jeremiah 29:11)
He loves you as a Father loves an only child. (1 John 3:1)

No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame Psalm 25:3

But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me Micah 7:7

For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope Romans 15:4

God wants you to have Hope. He knows how important it is. So, whatever you're facing today, speak to God about it., ask Him to show His faithfulness through His word and to give you hope in your heart. God will come through for you. (It may not be in the time or the way you asked him to, but He will!) He can't do anything less. Did you hear that? He CANNOT do anything less because then He wouldn't be God. So, stop wallowing in the pond and start soaring with the eagles!

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

  1. My Mom told me something about the character of God that I had never thought of before. You know the 10 commandments, right? Why does God tell us to do these things? What makes them good and right? Because they are what He would, and will, do.
    "Do not steal."
Well, why not? What makes it bad? The reason it is bad, is because God would never do it, and He is all good! Isn't that cool? Its like a promise from Him to us, showing us what to expect, and how He will act. I think that is so cool!

  2. Great post- and so true! I love the verse in Bible that you quoted about "soaring on the wings of eagles".

I FINALLY got to a fast internet service and watched the trailer on TBE. Loved the music which reminded me of the movie "Last of the Mohicans" which evokes a feeling of tragedy and drama, with a little romance sprinkled in.:)(what you do so well). Finished the Red Siren and thought it was awesome!! I've started TBE and don't expect it to last long!

  3. That is a great post! I do totally agree with it. I have always hated the wars and we really do need someone or something to rely on. And that usually is God and without Him there wouldn't be much hope for anything.

I have seen, kind of met and been around people who have no hope. They think that they have nothing to offer the world and that no one will care if they are gone and then they try to do things that are wrong.
People who are close to God and love Him should share their hope with others and maybe some of it will rub off on those that need it. I mean if they just see how we have so much hope they might start to realize thats what they are missing.
Just reading the Bible and saying prayers in the morning and night gives you a sense of hope and meaning, so it would be a very good thing if people read the Bible more often.

Thank you for that post MaryLu!

  5. I love to read the books that bring people to Christ with in them. Because this life is terrible and by reading His Word and a good book get us away for a little while.
