Are Christians Terrorists?

All these are the beginning of birth pains. Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other. Jesus Matt 24: 8-10

Recently I came across a document put out by The Office of Homeland Security entitled:

Rightwing Extremism: Current Ecnomic and Political Climate fueling resurgence in radicalization and recruitment

This document was sent out to all law enforcement agencies in our country with the purpose to "facilitate a greater understanding of the phenomenon of violent radicalization in the United States". Basically as kind of an assessment of what's going on and what groups of people to look out for as potential terrorists. Sound good? Well, as I read deeper into it, I found the following paragraph. (highlighting is mine)

Paralleling the current national climate, rightwing extremists during the 1990s exploited a variety of social issues and political themes to increase group visibility and recruit new members. Prominent among these themes were the militia movement's opposition to gun control efforts, criticism of free trade agreements (particularly those with Mexico), and highlighting perceived government infringement on civil liberties as well as white supermacists' longstanding exploitation of social issues such as abortion, inter-racial crimes, and same-sex marriage. During the 1990s, these issuees contributed to the growth in the number of domestic rightwing terrorist and extremist groups and an increase in violent acts targeting govermment facilities, law enforcement officers, banks and infrastrature sectors

And in the following paragraph:

Antigovernment conspiracy theories and "end times" prophecies could motivate extreme individuals and groups to stockpile food, ammunition, and weapons. These teachings have been linked with the radicalization of domestic extremist groups in the past, such as violent Christian Identity organizations and extreme members of the militia movement

And on the next page

Many rightwing extremist groups perceive recent gun control legislation as a threat to their right to bear arms (Excuse me, don't we have the right to bear arms in the 2nd Amendment?) and in response have increased weapons and ammunition stockpiling.

This document caused me some discomfort. Mainly because it listed the very things I strongly believe in: Pro-life, the sanctity of marrige, the right to bear arms, in such a negative light as to indicate they would lead to some sort of violent act. Now, I realize that some people have blown up abortion clinics and harrassed and even killed gays in the name of Christianity, (acts I adhor) but there are always a few crazies on the fringes of any belief system. But to list these conservative beliefs along with end times prophecies and labeling such people as potential terrorists is ludicrous and very unsettling.

Read what Oliver North has to say

Washington, DC – According to the U.S. Government, I am an extremist. I am a Christian – and meet regularly with other Christians to study God’s word. My faith convinces me the prophesies in the Holy Bible are true. I believe in the sanctity of human life, oppose abortion and want to preserve marriage as the union of a man and a woman. I am a veteran with skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat. I own several firearms, frequently shoot them, buy ammunition and consider efforts to infringe on my 2nd Amendment rights to be wrong and unconstitutional. I fervently support the sovereignty of the United States, am deeply concerned about our economy, increasingly higher taxes, illegal immigration, soaring unemployment, and actions by our government that will bury my children beneath a mountain of debt.
Apparently, all this makes me a “rightwing extremist.” At least that’s what it says in the April 7, 2009 “Assessment” issued by the Office of Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The nine-page report, titled, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” is full of warnings about American citizens who share any of my background or subscribe to the beliefs above. It is one of the most alarming documents produced by our government that I have ever read.

  2. Let’s see: what is the government spending all these trillions on? Less and less on health, education, and consumer protection. More and more on defense and homeland security, and, of course, on replacing the mickey-mouse money of the rich with real taxpayers' money. Why? The budgets for defense and homeland security go mostly to procurements from big business. Those for the well-being of the citizens go more to salaries and aid to individuals, only indirectly generating profits for business, and the wrong business, at that.

So how do you ensure that Congress will keep on raising the defense and homeland security budgets? You find threats. Remember the Cold War? It was a credible threat, and the budget for countering that threat was high and never questioned Then the Soviet Union fell, and Congress started talking about cutting the defense budget. Bush the elder had installed old Saddam in Iraq while head of the CIA, and he called on Saddam to return the favor. Within a few weeks of the news of the defense budget cut initiative, Saddam invaded Kuwait, and there was a credible threat again. The defense budget stayed high.

Bill Clinton had focused on the economy and towards the end of his presidency, the shares of the defense industry were at an all-time low. Bush the younger was installed as President with instructions from neo-con think tanks to provide a new Pearl Harbor. Soon the old business associates of the Bush family, the Bin Laden family, provided just that on 9-11-01. The defense budget skyrocketed and the shares of the defense industry followed suit. Need I add that the Bush family is well invested in defense? That Dick Cheney’s Halliburton started getting no-bid contracts by the bucketful? Pretty transparent.

You’d think that Obama would renew the focus on the economy, seeing that somehow, somebody will have to repay the loans Dubya took to make the next generation pay for his looting. But Obama didn’t get elected without the support of big business either; nobody has since Jack Kennedy. (Kennedy got shot the day before he was to sign he order to withdraw from Vietnam.) Obama will have to repay the favors to big business just like his predecessors, and he, too, will have to keep finding threats. Now it’s right-wingers, gun owners, and veterans. Under Bush it was left-wingers and war critics. Under Clinton, it was militias and paramilitary gun-toters. Somebody will always have to carry the can, and the rich will keep getting richer.

Read my free e-book Walkabout: The History of a Brief Century. This stuff is easier to explain when there’s more room to tell the story.

  3. We have the same strong convictions and have read similar things recently. When you start hearing it from different sources you begin to realize the legitimacy of it. I think as God's people we need to let our voices be heard. And as a very dear friend often tells me Keep your eyes on HIM.

  4. My mom heard about this before I did. Thank you for sharing deeper on the matter, as I've been wanting to know more.

I cannot believe it either. I am completely dismayed. What I find most amusing though, is how those "prophecies" they claim coincide with terrorists are continually becoming reality every day. Concerning the Bible above all, if they would just read and study it to see if it lines up (from Jesus to Revelations), I firmly believe they would discover that it does and still IS! Yet, forgive my boldness, but they don't bother! Otherwise, they would have never said such things.

Yes, I fully agree that the proof does not give anyone permission to do extreme things like murdering and destroying public property to get their points across, but to pin the actions of those that have on EVERYONE that believes against such things is ridiculous! They might as well say "anyone that has ever thought differently than another is condemned." Even when, all the while, there are so many that simply care and pray for all involved and only want what is best for this country and it's people and would never commit such acts.

Where is our freedom? More importantly, where are some people's brains??? Will they try to take away our ability to love next? God help us.

Thank you again for the post, Mrs. Tyndall. God bless you and yours! :)

Oh, and I just wanted you to know that I am THRILLED to discover you have a blog! lol
