I know you like Jim Caviezel. But, ever since he played Jesus, I can't watch him in anything. I never even watched the movie, just clips. It pains me too much to see 'anyone' play the role of Christ. I know that movies like that help bring people to Christ, but I, personally, can't watch them. But, that's only my opinion. I'm sure everyone else likes your choice.

How about pages 176-177 where Charlisse goes to see Merrick in prison? Or chapter 30 where she meets her father for the first time? Or page 236 where God draws the protective circle around Charlisse in the cell? Too many to choose from. :)

It was pretty good, though : ) My favorite of Jim's movies was the one where he talks to his dad over the radio, even though he had died when he was a kid... I don't remember the name of it, I saw it so long ago. I hope you know which one I mean!

I remembered the name while I was sleeping. LOL. It's Frequency. Anyway... The Count of Monte Cristo is a classic novel but htey made a movie about it some years ago.. maybe 10? It's one of my favorite movies. If you haven't seen it.. you should! Just look for the one staring Jim Caviezel

I know it sounds weird, but whenever I see an actor play a role 'too well', I can't watch them in anything else. I made the mistake of watching 'The Devil's Advocate' years ago and to this day, I cannot even look at a picture of Al Pacino without rebuking him. If you've never seen the movie (and don't)he plays the devil......way too well. And 'Brokeback Mountain' (only watched clips here and there) ruined watching Heath Ledger movies. I know it sounds silly, but that's how my brain is wired. LOL

Debbie, I've never seen Brokeback Mountain and don't want to, but I felt that way after seeing Heath Ledger play Joker in The Dark Knight. Of course, he died after that and wasn't really in anything else, but going back and watching his other movies, you wonder how he could have played such a horrible character so well. I did see the Passion of the Christ when it first came out, but I was only 13 or so, and I barely remember it. I didn't even realize it was Jim Caviezel in it.

I just couldn't picture Heath Ledger gay.. just couldn't do it. My favorite movie with him was Knight Tales. Kind of quirky and adventurous.. I never saw the Batman movies with him because I knew it would ruin him for me. I was so upset when he died. What a waste. Through most of THe Passion, Jim Caviezel didn't look like himself.. so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me to see him play other roles.. Yes, it was a disturbing movie, but I thought it was so well done and so true to the Scriptures, that I loved seeing Jesus on film. It somehow made what he went through more real to me.. more impacting. But I know many people couldn't watch it... and that's okay... Great discussion!
Well, personally, yes, I thought the Passion was very disturbing. And it ought to be. Anyone who can watch that and not be disturbed has serious problems. And it's not one I want to watch again. But it definitely helped a LOT of people. And our church put on a musical, twice actually, about the life of Jesus. Each time there was a different cast, but both of the men who played Him were very humbled, and I know they spent a lot of time in prayer to be able to portray Him correctly and without it "getting to their heads." Basically the entire church family was involved, so the fact that the sanctuary was packed both nights of both productions means that we reached a lot of people who may not have known what they learned that night. So, for me, as long as they have the right attitude about it, I think it's great.
Well, with this subject, I guess we can agree to disagree to a point. :) And trust me, it's just me. My children have no trouble distancing themselves from actor/role movies. And my husband played a part in the church Christmas play. I like the movie 'A Knight's Tale'. It is a very funny movie. It is a shame that he died, he was so young.
Yes, agreed, Sarah, the right attitude and following the Scriptures. With this visually entertained culture, a Jesus play or movie can still be a great way to get the Gospel out. Debbie, I would think something was wrong if we agreed on everything. :-)

Anyone who is not a Christian watching The Passion should feel a check in their spirit. It should make them think twice about not taking the gospel and Jesus Christ seriously. Its one thing to make fun of a fairytale that you know could never in a million years ever happen. Its another thing to make fun of something that ACTUALLY happened in history.
