She Walks in Power - PreRelease Party Day 3!

Thank you for celebrating with me the release of my very first medieval romance, She Walks in Power!  I expect to have both Ebook and Paperback for sale in most of the online stores by September 3nd, if not sooner!

To help celebrate the grand event, I'm hosting a party here on my blog each Friday in August where I will post something about the characters or story which will hopefully get you excited about the book!

I'm also giving away the following:

  • Four Signed Paperbacks of She Walks in Power
  • Two E-copies of She Walks in Power
  • The grand prize pictured below. A set of Knight in Shining Armor Book Ends!
I will choose all the winners and post their names on September 2nd.

The past two Fridays I've introduced you to the heroine, Alexia D'Clere and the hero, Ronar LePeine.  If you haven't read about them, click on their names to go to that post. You'll need to know a bit about them for this post. This is my traditional "Guess what the character will say" post that many of my readers love.

This is how it works.  Read the short excerpt below and then based on what you know about the characters, choose which is Alexia's most likely response.  Leave your answer in the comments section along with your email and I will:
  • Enter your name in the general drawing for the prizes above AND
  • If you choose the correct response, you'll be entered into another drawing for a signed paperback of any of my books!
Check out these MEMEs Debbie Mitchell made for me! These are just a few of them.

Without further ado:
Scene set up: Alexia has just shot Ronar in the leg.

She dropped to his side, tossed aside the bow, and stared at the blood bubbling around the arrow protruding from his leg. “Alack, what have you done?”
Ronar groaned. “What have I done?”
“I warned you, Sir Knight. Did you not hear me?”
“Alas,” he grumbled out. “Prior experience gave me no faith in your aim.”
“Again, you underestimate me.”
“Wait,” Ronar said, as a vision of her firing at him cleared the fog in his mind. “You closed your eyes ’ere you shot.”
She laughed. “Hogtoes, what madness you speak, Sir.” Her panic turned to determination. “Stay here.” Leaping to her feet, she searched the ground.
“I find I have no choice,” he replied, admiring the way she filled out men’s breeches and the feminine curves she tried to hide behind her dark green doublet. Leather belts crisscrossed said doublet wherein two knives were sheathed. The quiver of arrows hanging at her back did naught to hide the waterfall of bronze curls tumbling to her waist.
He cleared his throat and shifted his gaze. What was he doing? He should arrest her for stealing the king’s game. And shooting the King’s Guard. Not ogle her like a love-sick squire.
Using her knife, she sliced a vine hanging from a tree and returned to his side with a handful of peat and cobwebs. A stream of sunlight broke through the canopy igniting her hair in glittering copper. Eyes green as the forest around her, save for tiny specks of gold, stared at him as if she had bad news to convey.
And he lost all sense of pain and discomfort.
“I’m going to remove the arrow now,” she said softly. “I fear ’twill pain you greatly.”
Precious lady. He forced back a smile. If she only knew the battles he’d fought. The wounds he’d sustained. “I trust you will be gentle,” he replied a bit too tauntingly.
Suspicion flashed in her eyes. “You do not fear me?”
“I am at your mercy, Lady Falcon. One more well-placed arrow and you could be rid of me forever.”
“And why would I wish that?” She studied the wound.
“Three times you have attempted my demise. What else would I think? Alack, what better way to keep me from telling your secret?”
“Have you?” She set aside her forest treasures and pressed a light finger where wood met flesh.
“Nay, as I promised.”
“I do not recall hearing your troth. Merely my threat to slit your throat.”
“I do not gainsay it, Lady Falcon. The thought brought me great terror.” He smiled.

Now, what does Alexia say next?

A. She gazed at him in horror. "I beg your forgiveness, Sir. I never meant to cause you alarm."
B. She heaved a sigh as her eyes met his. "If so, you misread me, Knight. I would never do such a thing."
C:  She narrowed her eyes. “You are pleased to mock me, Sir Knight. But you will find that I am indeed one to fear, withal.”

D. "Good. I must thank you for keeping your silence.."

Leave your choice in a comment with your email. Next week, I'll conclude the party with an interesting post on Alexia's spiritual gift!

Have a great weekend!

  6. Fri 19th,
    "Morning, MaryLu ... and gals."
Truly, NOT because everyone else has guessed it, but I also think "C" might be the right answer. (If not ... then "D".) But I'll guess "C".
Thanks again, MaryLu ... this is always fun !!!
Take care, and, God Bless, In Him, Brenda

  7. I always enjoy this guessing game, but unfortunately my record is not the best in choosing correctly. Since one of Alexia's traits is kindness I'm thinking B or D, but she's also rash with her emotions, so it could be C. I'm going to pick "B" since maybe she feels a wit bit badly for shooting Ronar.

Whatever the answer, this small snippet has me eager for more.

  27. I immediately decided C! Then as I read the comments I realized I was not the only one who felt this way either. LOL! I felt that Alexia has spunk and an assurance in her skill to keep the spear safe. She also senses that Ronar is teasing her and she doesn't find it at all amusing. She is very serious in her duty.
