Contend for the Faith!

Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.  Jude 3

If you haven't read my blog post from last Friday, I encourage you to do so. I feel we must contend for the faith, the True Faith in Jesus Christ, more than ever right now as we approach the Rapture and the coming Tribulation. There is so so much deception hitting us from every direction, it's hard to know the truth anymore. But there is ONE TRUTH we can cling to. That is Jesus and His Word (The Holy Scriptures)  This is why we are exhorted over and over in the Bible to read and study the Scriptures, to memorize them, meditate on them, and study them. I'm telling you a very important truth right now. If you don't know your Bible, you will probably end up being deceived as we progress toward the Tribulation. Why? Because the people deceiving you will use Scripture to do so, will claim to be Christians and will be advocating for good things.

Seems like even back in the 1st Century church Jude encountered some of the same deception. Jude was one of the half-brothers of Jesus and only has one book to his credit with one chapter, but boy is it an important one. Contend means "Struggle, Strive, Fight!"  which is what we must do when we see the true church being invaded by deceivers

Let's go through a few verses of his book.

But I want to remind you, though you once knew this, that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

Hmm. But the Hebrews who came out of Egypt did believe in God. How could they not? They saw the Red Sea part and the cloud by day and pillar of fire by night, so they believed in God. So, believe here must mean something else. It isn't enough to believe! You have to trust in, commit to, and have a relationship with Jesus.

Jude goes on to warn us about the deceivers in the church.

For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hmm. Sounds like Hypergrace to me

These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots;  raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
...
These are grumblers, complainers, walking according to their own lusts; and they mouth great swelling words, flattering people to gain advantage. But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ: how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts. These are sensual persons, who cause divisions, not having the Spirit.

Clearly these are people calling themselves Christians, partaking of communion with the saints. Interestingly enough, many of these NAR people I spoke about last Friday are saying the Rapture and Tribulation are far far off, or that they don't happen at all.  Now, I'm not saying all these wayward pastors have evil hearts. Many of them are sincere and believe they are following the Lord, but the last phrase says it all. They do not have the Spirit. If they had the Spirit and listened to the Spirit, they would know the truth.

One of the main characteristics of pastors/Teachers/prophets who speak untruths these days is that it's hard to pick them out. By all accounts they appear to be Godly people, kind, generous, loving, and using Scripture when they speak. That's why there's only one way to know whether they speak God's truth or not. That's by knowing the Word of God so well yourself, that you know immediately when something they say doesn't add up!

Satan is a master deceiver. And his one and only goal is to get you to join him in hell. He hates you with a passion and he's very very clever, more clever than the most intelligent human genius. He's also had years to learn the best strategies. He has infiltrated many of our churches these days with all kinds of heresies, and the NAR and Great Awakening I spoke about Friday is just the latest one.

Jude doesn't leave us without a strategy of our own. He leaves us with these instructions.

But you, beloved, build yourselves up on the foundation of your most holy faith, continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher.

How do you build yourself up in the faith and continue to make progress? By reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus!

Pray in the Holy Spirit.  (With Tongues or under the Influence of the Holy Spirit)
Keep yourselves in the love of God (Remember and reflect on how much you are loved! Don't let the enemy tell you otherwise)
Waiting anxiously and looking forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ which will bring you to eternal life! (Keep looking up!)

Now, what does Jude say to do with those who have gone astray?

  • And have mercy on some, who are doubting;
  • Save others, snatching them out of the fire
  • On some, have mercy but with fear, loathing even the clothing spotted and polluted by their shameless immoral freedom.
In other words,  try to help those who are doubting or caught up in heresy, even to the point of yanking them out of whatever false theology they are following. But if they still won't listen, stay away from them, fearing the deception they are under, for we know that we are equally vulnerable to the lies of the enemy.

I'll leave you with Jude's final verse.

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling or falling into sin, and to present you unblemished, blameless and faultless, in the presence of His glory with triumphant joy and unspeakable delight,  to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and power, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

  1. Hallo MaryLu

    Chris Richter from SA again.

We have to be so careful not to be deceived. As you have said, scripture rightly devided is the only way to stay on the way.
All truth is parallel and if we find a place in scripture that seems to contradict scripture, then that what we understand is wrong.

Scriture will always axplain it self and there will also be parallels to certain truths.

I want to share what I believe the Holy Spirit showed me regarding the ten virgins and the parallel between it and what Jesus shared with Nicodemus in John 3.

First of all Jesus said "Ye must be born again". All ten virgins are born again believers.
From verses 3 to 8 of John 3 Jesus states the importance of being born again.
From verses 13 to 18 Jesus gives the gospel that is necessary to be believed in order to get born again.

The difference between the five wise and five foolish virgins was the state of their lamps.
The purpose of a lamp is to give light.
Jesus says in Matthew 5: 16  "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
In other words the light is your good works. The good works is not doing good things but rather your lifestyle.

Now take a good look at what Jesus states in John 3:19  "And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20  For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21  But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."

In Ephesians 2:8 and 9 Paul writes "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9  Not of works, lest any man should boast."

These two verses are being quoted a lot, but look at verse 10 " For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

Revelation 19:7  Let’s rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let’s give the glory to him. For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready.”
8  It was given to her that she would array herself in bright, pure, fine linen: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

Jesus in the parable of the wedding in Matthew 22 mentioned the man without a wedding garment. Wedding garment = righteous acts = lamps of wise virgins.

Since the Lord showed this to me, I was amazed how many times the importance of good deeds are mentioned in the new testament.

Keep up the good work. Your website is one of the few that I enjoy.

    Greetings in Jesus our saviour.

    1. Hi Chris! Yes, exactly! This is what most Christians need to do. Study the Scriptures by using other Scriptures. The Bible and the Holy Spirit are all we need to understand what God wants us to know. I love how you put all the pieces together. I had always heard that the oil in the lamp was the Holy Spirit, but I can also see now that the light from the oil was good works, good deeds, brought out of a changed heart and a love for Jesus. We aren't saved by good works, but those good works, or the fruit of the Spirit (our lifestyle as you say) are evidence of Jesus living in us, sanctifying us to be more like Him. Without that change, that evidence, without that light, we may be locked out of the wedding feast. Which is very sad indeed. Yet so many believers these days claim that all good works are legalism. Thank you for your insight, Chris. God bless you and keep you there in SA!

  2. Hi MaryLu.
I still believe the oil for the lamps speak of the Holy Spirit without whom we can not shine our light. You are right when you say that our good works are the fruit of the spirit.
We have to grow the fruit. That is the work.
May God bless and keep you also there in the USA.

  3. Great teaching MaryLu this is where the Lord has been leading me too. Even to where I read Jude last week, along with First, Second and Third John. I feel HE is telling me the WORD will keep me safe and the TRUTH is always there. All this mass deception led under the influence of satan is insane. Too many radio stations playing in one room, with everyone speaking at once. And we know who is the master of chaos and confusion!! But the WORD is Eternal and we can study and meditate on it. It's LIVING as it speaks to us continually through the Holy Spirit. I feel like we are seeing so much prophecy being fulfilled, that now we can watch, pray and hang tight to the WORD of GOD and know our Lord Jesus is coming for His Bride anytime now. I sure pray so, because this old Bride is getting weary of this deceptive world... I think of how many have come to Jesus through these false or misguided teacher/preachers, me for one and it was studying the WORD that brought me the TRUTH and helped me to see through the false teaching. We need to be ungering for as much as we can get right now. And claim the covering; the Blood of Jesus. I'm sticking with it, until I get caught UP with my Lord and Savior Jesus. God's blessing to you Sweet Sister and may HE protect and guide all we love to His saving Truth. Eternally yours in the Family of God A Sis forever! Cillie

  4. I've seen how this past year, God has shown me all I need is His Word. I don't need all the devotionals or commentaries of someone else's takeaways. He will speak to me and give me my own. I will be honest though. These last days become lonelier and lonelier as I see people I thought would be with me in the rapture turn to false doctrine. I want to shake them awake and force their eyes back on Jesus. Thank you for the Jude Scriptures about snatching some back from the fire. They may hate me, but I will war for them. I will fast and pray for their souls. I love them too much not to.

    1. Katy, I can SO relate.. so many of my God-fearing friends and so many family members have wandered from the narrow path. Jesus warned us, but I thought it would be someone else's family and friends, not mine. I am alone here. Just me and Jesus, and in truth the more I know Him, the more I realize that is enough. Sending prayers and hugs to you, dear lady!
