Happy 234th birthday, America!

I love my country, and I thank God every day for allowing me to be born here and grow up as an American citizen. Out of all the nations on earth, our citizens have the most freedom and the most opportunity!  What a privilege and an honor to be an American.
That's why it breaks my heart to watch as our school textbooks are being revised to take out the fundamental truths of who we are and where we came from,  to stand by while a power hungry, self-serving, arrogant government slowly leeches away our freedoms, to listen to the anti-American rhetoric coming from within our own goverment and from within our own citizens. Yes, America is not perfect and we do have problems, but we are the greatest nation on earth.  And you want to know why?
Because we were founded on faith in God and on His holy principles from the Bible. Here's just a few quotes from our founding fathers:

John Adams - Signer of the Declaration and 2nd President of the United States
The general principles on which the fathers achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity. I will avow that I then believed, and now believe, that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God

John Quincy Adams - 6th President of the United States
In the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior. The Declaration of Independence laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity

Samuel Adams - Signer of the Declaration
I conceive we cannot better express ourselves than by humbly supplicating the Supreme Ruler of the world . . . that the confusions that are and have been among the nations may be overruled by the promoting and speedily bringing in the holy and happy period when the kingdoms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ may be everywhere established, and the people willingly bow to the scepter of Him who is the Prince of Peace

Gunning Bedford - signer of the Constitution, Federal Judge
To the triune God – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost – be ascribed all honor and dominion, forevermore – Amen

Elias Boudinot- President of Congress, Signed the peace treaty to end the American Revelotion, Framer of the Bill of Rights, First Attorney admitted to the US Supreme Court Bar
Let us enter on this important business under the idea that we are Christians on whom the eyes of the world are now turned… Let us earnestly call and beseech Him, for Christ’s sake, to preside in our councils. . . . We can only depend on the all powerful influence of the Spirit of God, Whose Divine aid and assistance it becomes us as a Christian people most devoutly to implore. Therefore I move that some minister of the Gospel be requested to attend this Congress every morning . . . in order to open the meeting with prayer

Noah Webster - Revolutionary soldier, educator, legislator
The moral principles and precepts found in the Scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws

Daniel Webster - US Senator, Secretary of  State
The Christian religion – its general principles – must ever be regarded among us as the foundation of civil society

George Washington - 1st President and Father of our Country
While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian

I could go on and on. I highly recommend you check it out for yourself. There's a great site called Wallbuilders where you can find out all sorts of information and see original documents for yourself. Here's the link: http://www.wallbuilders.com/

As we celebrate the birth of our great nation and remember the sacrifices of those who laid the foundation, let us look to heaven and beg God's forgiveness for having strayed so far from Him, for having removed the Bible and prayer from schools and from our government. Let us ask God to restore our land to its former glory that we might be a light to the world of God's love and salvation.

I will leave you with one final quote from John Adams
Without religion, this world would be something not fit to be mentioned in polite company: I mean hell

I totally agree with you MaryLu. It is so sad how much our country has declined over time. I fear it will only get worse. It is up to the individual to teach his/her children and grandchildren how this country was truly built. My children were homeschooled, so it was easy for me to incorporate Christianity into their history lessons. Those who do not homeschool, need to take the time to talk to their children whenever possible. God bless and may God continue to bless America.

  2. True that, MaryLu :) :) :) :) You put into words what I couldn't :) :) I was reminded of the Author of true freedom while sitting in church today...and being thankful that I live in a country where I can still worship as I please. Oh, that last quote by John Adams...that was really good :) :) Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)

  3. Hi, MaryLu! Thanks for sharing these thoughts with us. I love our country and my heart breaks for all that we're going through. We watched part of the Boston Pops last night. I can never hear any of our national songs without tearing up.

I received your email on Facebook about the drawings this month, but when I opened it up there was nothing there. I'm guessing it's a Facebook gliche. Anyway, I saw something about commenting on your blog, so here I am. If I have it wrong, please let me know.

You are one of my favorite authors. I love reading your work. I hope you'll include me in your drawing. You can reach me at

  5. Amen Mary Lu! Let's pray for our country unceasingly. Far be it for us to rest and let our freedoms slip away. Those freedoms were bought with such a high price and such a strong faith.
God forgive us and help us!

  6. Thanks, everyone! The more I learn about the beginnings of my country, the more I love it! And the more I realize how far we have drifted from the intent of our founding fathers. Let's humble ourselves and pray for our nation daily!
