A new medieval historical, Protectors of the Spear!

Some of you may wonder what I'm working on now. I just started writing the first of what I hope will be three novels in a new series called Protectors of the Spear. If I had to choose two favorite time periods for books I like to read, it would be US-Colonial and Medieval.  Yet whenever I mentioned Medieval to my publisher, they shook their heads and told me that era wasn't very popular in the Inspirational market. However, I've polled readers on more than one occasion and medieval has always taken the lead, if not close, right behind my pirates.  I realize I'm sailing into uncharted waters, but hey, that's what pirates are good at, right?

The first book is called She Walks in Power, and I hope to release it in the Fall, probably October.  Yes, it takes me that long to write a full-length novel.  Now, you can see how frustrating it is when I get emails from people who've read my latest book in two days!!  You know I'm kidding. It's actually quite flattering.

If you want to know more about the book, click on "Coming Soon" above. But for now, I'll leave you with the pictures I've chosen for the hero, Ronar LePeine, and the heroine, Alexia D'Clere.

I've also commissioned a cover and should have the mock-ups for that in June.
For now, I hope to tease you with my new Pinterest Page for this series.  Just scroll through the pictures or click to visit the site. I hope it will give you an idea of the romantic and adventurous setting of the story.

I pray you all have a wonderful and joy-filled Resurrection Day on Sunday as we celebrate our Risen Lord who defeated sin, the devil, and death itself!!

  4. YES! YES! YES!!! Super excited about your medieval series. I just finished reading Tamara Leigh's "Age of Faith" series and the first two books of her "Feud" series and couldn't get enough of the days of yore and knights in shining armor. Add to the fact that you picked Athos from the Musketeers as your hero and I already know I'll love it. And also seeing Aramis on your Pinterest Page?!? Be still my rapidly beating heart! I have no doubt in your capability to write a strong story, and will be praying for you.

HALLELUJAH! He is RISEN!! Celebrating with you all the fact that because He lives so do we.

  8. Marylu
Medieval is my favorite historical fiction to read only behind pirates. Two genres that there wasn't a lot of inspirational fiction book or even "clean romance" either. So I was beyond thrilled when I discovered your pirate novels. You made this readers day. As someone who grew up reading Peter Pan and Treasure Island over and over because I loved pirates and there wasn't anything out there. Also as a reader who loved the legend of Robin Hood and the middle ages I am beyond thrilled that you are going to write a Medieval novel. A novel and possibly a series that I cannot wait to read. I am glad that as a writer you are willing to take risks.

    1. Sounds like we are very similar in our tastes, Carissa. I adored Peter Pam and Treasure Island and I also loved Robin Hood, The Huntsman, etc... I also love fairy tales. Once upon a time is one of my favorite shows. :-)

  11. Sat Mar 26th,
    "Morning, MaryLu ... and gals."
CANNOT wait for "She Walks in Power" to be released !!! No kidding ! Cannot tell you how many times I have visited our Town Library and typed in their computer (of book listings) ... for "Vikings, fiction, historical, romance" ... or "Scottish/Irish (highland) fiction, historical, romance" ... and today (yet again), I am going back to Library to check out "Knights, fiction, historical, romance" !!!
Your Book Publishers were wrong MaryLu ... I for one, am enthralled with these ancient characters ... maybe it's because I have a MOST vivid and over-active imagination !!! But I am more than eager, to read these kinds of novels right now ... they are exciting, and provide an interesting change of scenery/characters. (*And of course ... if these novels just happened to be "inspirational too" ... that would just be the BEST !!!)
So, I say ... "keep on, keeping on ... you are definitely on the right track" !
"She Walks in Power" sounds/looks great (as we knew it would)!
    Thanks so much for sharing.
And a Most Happy and Blessed "Resurrection Sunday" to one and all !!! What an Awesome and Wonderful God we serve .... "Thank-You Jesus for Your obedience to the cross and death, for each and everyone of us. Thank-You, we serve a Risen Saviour" !!!
Take care, and, God Bless, In Him, Brenda

  14. I love medieval fiction; however, every since I stumbled over ML's pirate novels, this is my favorite genre! Don't get me wrong, I still love my medieval stories and Stephen Lawhead has some of the most amazing in the genre! Can't wait for this series! (don't tell ML, but anything she writes is game for me!) :)
